As expected, BioWare chose Electronic Entertainment Expo 2010 as the forum for some major announcements to get SWTOR fans revved up. Here’s a quick recap of the highlights:
Release Date: Spring 2011!
Player Starships! Oboy! Developers call them our “base of operations.” Our ship will be a place to socialize, a place our companion characters will live when we’re not dragging them around the galaxy, a way for our groups to travel together. Plus, they’re really BIG inside! Check out the official video here.
Hope Trailer released (See video in previous post). YESSSSS. Created by Blur Studio, the same company that did the Deceived trailer, way back when. Definitely loved watching the Jedi Consular in combat.
Chiss & Twi’lek announced as playable races.
Social Points. Play testers got them for helping other players complete quests. What are they good for? Still a mystery.
PvP. There will be PvP armor. There will be PvP war zones. The war zone discussed was on Alderaan and involved team battle, Sith vs. Republic.
Play testing of six of the eight classes: Trooper, Smuggler, Sith Warrior, Imperial Agent, Sith Inquisitor, Bounty Hunter.
Multiplayer combat demo. BioWare’s Director of Production Dallas Dickinson was interviewed by G4. He talked us through a video showing a Trooper, Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, and Smuggler kicking some serious butt. In this video each class plays a specific but fluid role which resembles but is not constricted by the Tank/Healer/DPS Trinity. Especially interesting was the range-tanking done by the Trooper. Watch the combat demo portion of the interview here.
