If you’re too proud to ask for directions, don’t worry. Damion Schubert, Principal Lead Systems Designer for The Old Republic, thinks maps are a pretty big deal.
Make sure to read the full update if you want to know how map design works, but here are some key points that directly affect the players:
– The map clearly marks locations for mission offers, objectives, and more.
– “Breadcrumbing” shows you where to exit to objectives not on your current map, similar to what you see in games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Dragon Age II.
– When you move with your map open, it becomes transparent so you can use both the map and the main screen to navigate.
– Mission objectives for party members are indicated on your map.
Showing mission objectives for party members should help groups communicate. If you share one World Quest with a friend but have separate Class Quests in the same area, it will be easy to see what path is most efficient to accomplish all of your goals together. Hopefully we’ll be putting these maps to good use later this year.
