Jul 292011

More details after the jump…

Some of you might have known that in the Old Republic forums, Kellmorn organized a fan fiction contest in the Jedi Consular forum section. This first contest had 29 wonderful submissions. The contest was so well received that now it is getting ready to start back up, only this promises to be at least eight times better. This time the contest will encompass all eight character classes. That is not the only change for the contest, now submissions can be in the form of audio, comic, or written pieces. Along with each contests’ submission, they need to provide some form of a sketch. The purpose for the sketch of the main character has to do with one of the potential prizes! Read announcement on official forums here.

Submissions should be posted on the official forums. Look for Kellmorn’s thread on August 1st in each of the class forums and post your submission in the appropriate class.

I will let Kellmorn’s words elaborate more below.

Contest Dates

Competition Begins: August 1st

Submission Stage: August 1st-14th

Voting Stage: August 14th-21st

Winners announced: August 22nd

Rewards given out, and Grand Vote off begins: August 28th – September 4th

Rules regarding submissions & Prizes

It will be in all the official TOR character class forums, so it’s basically 8 competitions, one for each class. When 8 winners have emerged from the competition, those 8 submissions will be placed into a grand vote, where the community then votes for what they consider the best piece out of those 8 winning submissions. The rules will be remaining more or less the same; the word limit for written submissions will be 3000 words. But this time, alongside written submissions, the competition will also allow comic strips (minimum of two sheets of A4), and audio pieces (maximum length of 15 minutes)

Also this time, all submissions (audio, comic, written pieces) must provide a sketch (quality isn’t really an issue, it can be MS Paint and be awful) of the main characters weapon or gadget. This is so that a reward can be produced for them by Ironcleaver, http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=230646 Ironcleaver will be producing high quality 3D renders of all 8 winning submissions main characters weapon or gadget; the sketches are to make his life a lot easier. It’s really quite a special prize, definitely something unique for all 8 winning submissions.

The grand winner of the competition will have their piece acted out and recorded in an audio-book format by The Followers of Palawa, here’s a link to a part of their well-received audio series, http://followpalawa.guildlaunch.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5821645&gid=144432&page_id=65283&gid=144432. He also runs The Mind Meld Podcast.

This is the opportunity for all you writers, and artists to create your own Old Republic based storyline. So hurry and get working on your ideas and look in the forums for Kellmorn and get your entries ready to submit. All the best to those who are looking to enter!

One Response to “Star Wars: The Old Republic Fan Fiction Contest!!”

  1. Looking froward to the submissions. I should also point out that the winner will have the opportunity to sit down with the cast of The Mind Meld for some easy Q&A. All the best…
