EA’s Origin Signs Warner Bros., Capcom, THQ

EA’s digital download store, Origin, will start carrying games from independent publishers. In their most recent financial report, they announced a partnership with Warner Brothers Interactive, Capcom, and THQ. This marks the first time games outside the EA umbrella will be sold through their new digital download service. This move puts Origin in direct competition with Steam, currently the leader in digital games sales. EA has already announced that digital copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic will be available only through Origin.

    I think even if you purchase your copy through Origin, you won’t need Origin installed on your PC; and can run the TOR client independently if you download it from swtor.com. Maybe I’m misled, but that’s what I understand from the FAQs.

    That is correct Dan. But if you want to download the client early to prep for launch, you will need to use Origin.
