Nov 032011

Yesterday we posted a transcript of a portion of Senior Community Coordinator David Bass’ interview on the Mos Eisley Radio podcast. This generated a good conversation in the Comments section which prompted David Bass himself to respond with the acknowledgement that it can be difficult for new fansites to find their way. He also talked about a virtual meeting with more fansites. When one commenter asked how BioWare supports the fansite community, David wrote:

More David Bass and Comments after the jump.

We do it by providing a direct point of contact to someone at BioWare, i.e. Me. Do you know of any other companies that have a specific person whose sole job is “Fan Site Liaison”? It was a role we created when I started here, because it’s something BioWare believes very strongly in. The problem is that new sites don’t necessarily realize that outlet is there… the Fan Site Kit page points out the email address fansites@swtor.com, but if you never visit that page, you’d never know it was there. That’s something we’re working on… more exposure and help for people who want to start a fan site, beyond a kit full of assets.

And just to address one of the first posts, we ARE planning a virtual meeting for the fan sites, and we told all of the fan sites that over a month ago in our weekly emails.

We were pleased to learn, err, be reminded that BioWare plans to have a meeting for a larger group of fansites in the future. We will be reading those weekly emails with a little more care in the future!

  1. Wait, we were supposed to be getting weekly emails?

Sigh. I guess it’s time for another email to fansites@swtor.com to introduce myself.

Do you guys get weekly emails? What do they look like?

  2. @Sunny They look really really boring, which is why I tend to skim rather than read carefully (sorry, David!). Mostly they just inform you that the Friday update is out and provide the appropriate links to the swtor site. But occasionally there is a little nugget of information after all the links. Like the virtual meeting, apparently. :-O

  3. Kathy, you wound me with your words. I toil for days on those emails. DAYS!!

  4. Yeah those emails are quite blah and I missed that virtual meeting too!

  5. No no Terran, you didn’t miss the meeting. You missed the EMAIL about the meeting. You know, the bor-, err, well-produced email that neither you nor I read.

  6. So wait, I’m confused… are we supposed to be getting weekly emails? I’ve spoked with David Bass about tormonger a lot in the past, but I’m not on any sort of weekly mailing list.
