SITH OR JEDI:   Test of the Unpleasant Train Passengers

You’re enjoying a pleasant train trip with your young children. The ride is about three hours long. Near you are seated three bratty children and their completely inattentive parents. The brats are loud, they throw food and they bully your own kids. At some point the mom leans over and asks you, “What stop did they say this was?”  Do you:

  1. Knowing that her stop isn’t for some time, you tell her the truth about what stop is coming up.
  2. Tell her, “I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear it over the sound of your child screaming.”
  3. Again, knowing that her stop isn’t for some time, lie to her saying, “Yes, this is absolutely your stop allow me help you with your bags.”

  1. OMG!
I was planing on ask you to talk about how Orbital Stations are awful!I
I really think they are annoying! My question on the Q&A forum this week was about it, and if they have plans to take them down. They add a ton of unnecessary loading that are just plain awful. >_<

Nice show and I'm glad we are 'synchronized'. 🙂

  2. Great show! I agree about taking out the Orbital Stations.

As far as PVP fix, that won’t really happen until they fix faction imbalance. I thought they were going to moderate this from the beginning with guild placement before launch. Honestly, the game is skewed towards the Empire. I have played both sides and classes are mirrored, but it stops there. Combat animations, armor designs, storylines, and importantly when you bring in the light or dark side choice to storylines. You can not go dark side on the Republic side without being just a real “butt-head.”

Now I’m not saying the stories for the Republic are bad, but they do not seem to have the depth that their counters have on the Empire side. Armor is a complete mystery to me why this is so different. Jedi only can wear head-bands and Sith can wear full helms?? Please show me in lore where it said Jedi will only put a metal band around their head.

Why not use the light and dark system that is in-game now? You can make dark head-bands and some light helms as loot or schematics to be crafted.

As for Ilum, I think it needs some major help…although if there is a way to balance the factions on the servers, most of the problems, besides bugs, would fix themselves.

In the words of Mr. Miyagi, “One to one problem, yes. FIVE to one problem, too much ask anyone.” 🙂

  3. Carla, I honestly have no idea what you are talking about in regards to “shuttle ports.” Maybe it’s only on Belsavis, (I haven’t gotten there yet) but on every planet I’ve been to, My ship lands in a spaceport, I take the elevator from the hangar bay to the main level, and I walk out of the building onto the planet. I don’t know what this is about taking a shuttle to orbit and then getting on your ship. Running back to the spaceport is kind of a pain, but the spaceport is a building on the planet, not something I have to take a shuttle to. In summary, I’m confused…

  4. Your ship is there in the cutscenes, but it is actually in orbit. When you just enter your ship, it leaves…well at least in the cutscenes. Even if you do not go anywhere, except to talk to companions etc. when you exit the ship you have to fly down to planet. Just a small thing, but not needed. Your ship is an instance why does it have to take off unless you plot a course?

I think that is what Carla is referring to Peter 🙂

  5. I know, they are just a waste of time and annoying aren’t they? I am so glad you can relate! LOL

  6. I don’t know about the factions being imbalanced. I have played both sides and they “feel” similar. You said that if you go dark on the Republic side you feel like a real “butt-head”, but the Empire side is dark too. Some choices I didn’t want to make there either.

  7. I am referring to the extra “cut-scene” between your ship and the planet. You can call it a spaceport, but it is an extra cut-scene you shouldn’t have to go through. When you arrive at the Belsavis “Spaceport” you have to take a shuttle down to the planet surface. Try it! You will see. 🙂

  8. Yes, they are similar and there are decisions on both sides that are ones I would just never make. That said, the storylines are compelling both sides, but some huge lore appeal definitely falls on the Empire side. No, I won’t give spoilers, but go read the SWTOR novels, Deceived and Revan.

Perhaps, it is the unknown, besides the “cool” factor that has the numbers skewed for the Empire. I am hoping that in some way that Bioware can bring “Balance to the Force.” in SWTOR. 🙂

  9. cross server queing is fail. Dont need more losers leaving warzone cause it looks like they losing 1 min into match

  10. Orbital stations are horrible, but orbital stations with airlocks are so much worse. I can’t stand it when you not only have to run through one but two extra areas between the planet and your ship. At least the orbital station sometimes has a quest NPC or a vendor (I think).

I had complained to my son about how completely useless the airlock is as nothing ever happens there, then a day or two later I encountered a few class story segments that occurred within the airlock. BioWare would need to change these class story segments in order to remove the airlocks, but I hope they do it.

  11. Hey Crew-
I have to agree with Jason on the in-balance issue. The Sith get more love than the Republic, especially with equipment. My Sith Juggernaut looks way more BA than my Jedi Sentinel. Storywise, while the SIth do have some of the better story arcs right now, I have to say “hold it! there’s more incoming!” I think the Republic is due for some big love concerning Revan and the Jedi Knight story arc that will lead to confronting “something dark and sinister” in the future. Did I say too much? Sorry for the Spoiler if you didn’t already know… I’ll be following up on this in my column soon.
Right now, though, it looks like BioWare is following Blizzard’s lead: Sith Love equal to Horde Love. It appears that way.
