HoloNet Links #54

San Diego is the city and Comic Con is the event. This once small event for a few groups of Southern California comic book enthusiasts has now grown into a huge multimedia Mecca for all things “geek.” From the wild and crazy fan dressed in complete cosplay attire, to the marketing gurus for multi-billion dollar movie productions…San Diego Comic Con is the place to be and BioWare is there to show off The Old Republic. What all do they have planned? Who knows, but we have the schedule of things they let us know.

SWTOR events at SDCC, a Star Wars tribute & much more after the Jump…

Lord Vader, we seem to have misplaced our VIP passes

NoooOOOoooOOOooo

  • BioWare’s Calendar for SWTOR at SDCC

Yesterday the event kicked off with the running of the Course of the Force relay. This relay was all about raising money for a great charity Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year the final leg of the relay was sponsored by Star Wars: The Old Republic. Last week we saw the funny video of Chris Hardwick making sure the official relay lightsaber made it to the event. It is always great to have fun and even better when it can all go to helping out a worthwhile cause.

Now today starts the first full day that the convention floors were open to the masses. The showfloor will be open from 9:30am – 7:00pm, Thursday through Saturday, and Sunday 9:30am – 5:00pm. The Old Republic booth #2913 is located on of course Star Wars Pavilion. BioWare will be there showcasing the game to allow everyone to see every class…Oh and there will be prizes!

Now all this is great, sort of an appetizer and a salad, it is time for the main course part of the SWTOR Comic Con “meal.” Thursday night (7pm-9pm) there will be an Insider Event, so be sure to go get a VIP pass from the BioWare booth in the Star Wars Pavilion. If you snooze you lose out on getting into BioWare Base at the Hilton Gaslamp Quarter Hotel. I saw pictures and videos from last year’s event…just get a VIP pass and go! Okay next on the menu, we finish up the main course with a Q&A panel with the BioWare team and also some of the great voice actors…Catherine Taber just to name drop. This should be a great discussion. Be sure if you are attending this discussion, to have your questions ready to go. This panel will be Sunday in the convention center in room #6BCF at 11:45am.

Of course, no meal would be complete without a bit of dessert. It seems BioWare has a small tid bit of sweetness to finish off San Diego Comic Con with, in the form of a brand new video. I’m sure many of you are already speculating what it might be. Why not share your thoughts on what the new video is possibly about in our comment section below?

For all the dates, times and locations for BioWare and Star Wars: The Old Republic, be sure to read the following article.

  • Dev Tracker notes

Besides the events going on at Comic Con, this past week has been full of various news found in the forums. In this week’s Dev Tracker Blog, you can see that the devs must be listening to our podcast, just like all of you, because Carla and Deirdre discussed the issue of Group Finder taking you back to where you were and BAM it’s being changed. Now that is the kind of podcast/fansite we run here. You all, and us gamers included, wanted it changed and just like that, it is going to be done hopefully soon. Yeah we are taking credit for that. 🙂 You can read more from the dev post.

Oh and one item that I’m sure our local gaming fashionista, Maer is going to be happy to is a toggle to hide your companions helmets. It is set to come out with the color “unify to chest” system according to the blog and dev post.

Last Thursday we discussed the changes they were making to the dreaded tiebreakers in the Voidstar Warzone. This week there is another post in the forums. It talks about what will happen should neither team get past the first set of doors. Have you been a part of a tie match in Voidstar? How did the outcome impact you? If you were the devs what steps would you take to break the tie? Let us know in the comment section below.

Make sure you check out the full set of links and summary of all the dev tracker notes from July 3rd through the 9th in this week’s Dev Tracker Blog.

Star Wars Community News & Events

  • Corellian Run Radio’s Weekly Nav Coordinates

Seems like the week has just flown by, and what a week filled with some important news and articles. The announcement of the Free Trial till level 15 and the Friend Referral Program are sure to bring more people to the game and into the SWTOR Universe. This to me is more welcome news to maintain the servers on heavy to full status. Yes, it is some lag, but it makes grouping and queues for warzones pop faster. What has been your experience in the game lately? We would love to hear what you think about this and I also hope you take a moment to check out our articles from the past week. Be sure to also comment on the rest of our staff’s articles. We really love your feedback and discussions.

  • A Special Star Wars Tribute

There are many Star Wars events worldwide. In fact, I would dare say there might be one almost every day in some form or another. This one in Burnley, England caught my eye. It was not because it had folks dressed up in costumes, although it did. It was not because of any specific movie stars being a part of it, even though David Prowse, the man behind Darth Vader’s costume, donated signed prints to raise money for this tribute. This Star Wars event caught my eye, because of who I didn’t know…a man, Simon Kennerly that passed back in 2010 from cancer at the young age of 37. All of Simon’s friends arranged to have this party to celebrate this young man’s life. The party held at a place called Koko’s. In the article, by Chris Gee, it describes the gathering as not a sad memorial although I’m sure a tear or two was shed, but this was a happy party. Simon’s own mother was there, as most mothers would be, but how many do you know that would be dressed up as Princess Leia? Is this the biggest Star Wars tribute? No, but do I think they had a great time remembering their friend…yes indeed. On top of the fun, the tribute itself was able to raise over 600 British pounds for Pendleside Hospice, where he spent his last days.

  • SWTOR Fan Fiction

Manadalorian Girl has been on my favorite fan fiction writers in the community. It has been awhile since we had seen anything from her lately, until last week. She has continued on with the adventures of Na’sha…a young Mandalorian girl struggling to find her path. The last we had heard about her she was in a dark cave being tested in the ways of the Jedi. It was in this cave she came upon a Sith apprentice. The apprentice told her that she was sent by her master to bring Na’sha to him. That is where this new chapter begins entitled A Surprising Detour. It is very well written and has you wondering what plans this Sith Master has for our heroine and even more shocking reveal his connection to her Jedi friend (possibly more) Aiden.

“I mean you no harm.” He tilted my face toward him and gave me a heart stopping smile. “I doubt Aiden would appreciate it.”

My breath caught at the mention of Aiden’s name.

“You know Aiden?”

“Indeed and I must say, I am very disappointed! His description of your beauty pales in comparison to the vision of loveliness you are in person.” He flashed another smile.

That is it for this week’s HoloNet Links. Please leave us your thoughts in the comment section below.

  1. heading down tomorrow and Saturday! can’t wait! If you’re there and see a guy chasing his kids around telling them to not touch the $400 Boba Fett that’s probably me, stop and say “hi” 😀

  2. Awesome! I’m very jealous. Have fun Wicket! 🙂

  3. thanks, don’t be too jealous, like I said I spend most of it trying to stop the kids from destroying valuable collectors items. 😛
