HoloNet Links #64

Server consolidations happened this week. So, if you haven’t logged on since Tuesday, you might just find yourself on a new server or have some of your “forgotten” characters on other servers added to your character select screen. Okay, the good news, there are more people on each of the new “mega” servers and that is great for grouping and having Warzones pop faster. We also got a free chance to change our Legacy name. This is because Legacy names are no longer unique to just one player per server. Now along the lines of naming, there was some bad news. Some of us had to make name changes to existing characters. Oh, there was one other issue, UIs were reset. Why? Thank goodness I saved my UI settings. All and all, despite name changes and UI reset, the server consolidations seemed to go fairly smooth.

Joveth GonzalezThe former. The people are the same, even if they needed to rename their characters. Please refer to this answer in our FAQ!

So basically, if you were worried that one person who you had ignored would change their name and cause further issues…no need to worry. Go ahead and queue up for that Flashpoint or Warzone, the ones you had on ignore won’t be sneaking into your group.

Joveth GonzalezWhen naming conflicts occur due to the consolidation, players are given priority based on a variety of factors such as character play time and if they have already had to rename their characters as part of the first character transfer program back in June. Please do keep in mind that this does not encompass all of the factors taken into consideration, but those are an example of the major ones.

Well, this is the explanation for why some name changes happened. However, I’m still puzzled why those that were part of the destination server had to have their names changed. Even if it was moving everyone onto a bigger server…shouldn’t the ones that were already a part of the server, that it is named for, be moved first? I am not a bitter gamer, because thankfully, only one of my characters had to go through the name change, but that one had more game time hours than new alts that were moved to the server. Just seems odd how it all worked out. How did server consolidations work for you? Let us know in the comment section below.

Amber GreenHi everyone! Not all the color changes made it into this update, but we definitely plan to change the colors on the remainder of the Dread Guard gear.

Okay, honestly I do not have issue with the colors of the new armors, but who is designing the style of these armors? Have these designers even seen the movies or played Knights of the Old Republic? Please just give us cool armor actually seen in the Star Wars Universe. A good place to start with ideas is look at the cantina scene from Star Wars episode IV or Jabba’s Palace in episode VI. However, since color has been brought up…can we get the color options mentioned during the Guild Summit?

Toby McCallHi all,
I’m Toby McCall, the designer responsible for the Operator IX puzzle fight. Firstly, let me say that we really appreciate the feedback and the streams from PTS, both help us deliver the best play experience possible. Regarding the issues some of our color blind players are having while playing the Machine Core puzzle fight, we are aware of those issues and have been working on implementing a viable solution. For now, we’ve modified the direction and speed at which the orange and purple FX rotate to help differentiate them from yellow and blue. If it continues to be a problem, we’ll investigate other solutions.
Thank you all for your patience and for your passion for SWTOR!
See you out there.

This may not seem like a big deal to some, but if part of the operation has to deal with who has what color or the team could wipe, this is something that needs addressed. How about adding the color name above the character’s portrait or a subtitle of the color below the character on the ground? Just offering a couple suggestions to try and help this situation. What would be your idea to solve this issue?

Hmm there might be an issue…what do you think?

  • The Good Doctors retire from BioWare

BioWare just does not seem the same to me now. After hearing the news earlier this week that Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk announced their retirement and leaving BioWare.

BioWare ‏@bioware

BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka & Greg Zeschuk have announced their retirement. Read their blogs for details

These two men were responsible for bringing many of us back to the RPG genre, by making it more for those of us who grew up playing and loving the “old school” role-playing game. They made choices matter and really impact how the story played out. Their games made me remember the books that had you make a choice and then told you to turn to a certain page. Yes, they were games and the gameplay I enjoyed, but the thing I loved most was their passion for pulling me into this world and caring what was going on…not just my own character, but how other characters felt about my character and even how each companion was doing. Speaking of the companions, what other game had you truly wanting to interact and learn about a completely inhuman being? Yes, other games did this or maybe I should say, would attempt this, but BioWare and their stories are second to none. Now, I don’t think BioWare is going anywhere soon, but for me it is just like saying goodbye to a couple of friends.

Thank you to Dr. Muzyka and Dr. Zeschuk and all the best to you both.
