Photo-Receptor Focus on: TOR Former/Current Subscribers
In two days, on November 15, 2012, the SWTOR Free-to-Play model goes active. That’s good news for those who want to try the game for free. However, there are also some perks for those who are or who used to be subscribers. There are two important dates for those players. The first date is, of course, November 15th. And the second one is December 20th. Why are these dates important? Because they both involve free Cartel Coins.
More after the jump…
Yep, that’s right. All active subscribers on November 15, 2012, will be granted a one-time award of 250 complimentary Cartel Coins. And if you have ever paid for a subscription, even if it was only for one month, you have other Cartel Coins that have accrued to your account. You can check your amount by going to the SWTOR website and loggon into your account. The Cartel Coins are at the top of the menu on the left.
The trick is, to get those accrued coins you must re-activate your subscription by December 20, 2012. They extended that date to give former players more time to renew their subscriptions. A smart move on Bioware’s part. I’m assuming that once the December 20th deadline passes, the coins will no longer be available to you.
Right now, the price for Cartel Coins is supposed to be 450 coins for $4.99. For every month that you subscribed, you have earned 150 coins up to July 31,2012. You also earned 200 coins for each month after that. There are also extra coins for those who have the Collector’s Edition and the Digital Deluxe Edition.
For every month from November 15th on, we will also receive 500 Cartel Coins each month, which is another nice perk for subscribers. It’s like a discount for those paying to play and I appreciate that.
There are some cool things that we can get with the coins: pets and vehicles and gear. As I said in a previous article, my only issue is that you don’t know what you are getting inside of a pack and the numerous companion gifts were not as welcome as the cool stuff was.
I tend to not be a very lucky player. I roll a 2 more than any other number in rolls for loot. In fact, I’m famous for it in my guild. I even keep telling them that 2 should be a winning number. They haven’t agreed to that, though. Anyway, I’m still hoping Bioware will make some of the items available to buy separately. That way I could buy what I want, instead of taking my chances on the crap shoot of packs.
Another perk for subscribers, is that, in the event of game queues, subscribers have priority over Preferred and F2P players. And of course, subscribers have no in-game limitations that F2P and Preferred Players have.
Overall, I do recommend re-activating your subscription, if you have ever paid to play and get access to your accrued Cartel Coins. Obviously, the best time to do that would be by the November 15th date, to take advantage of the extra 250 Cartel Coins.
That’s my two credits. What’s yours?
