Photo-Receptor Focus on: SWTOR Upcoming Goodies

By Maer

The notes for the recent Livestream Q&A include some welcome information. New content, guild ships, the F2P model and many other things were discussed. Lots of teasers and few concrete dates, but overall, I’m happy with most of the decisions and directions that SWTOR is working toward. Let’s take a look at some of the more exciting information.

More after the jump…

In response to player comments, the F2P model will see an increase from two to six characters and four quickbars for the Preferred Players. That’s good. The Preferred Players, those who had subscriptions in the past, will be the ones who most notice the restrictions.

The point was made that since the real F2P players hadn’t played the game, they wouldn’t know how restrictive it is. I’m not sure I’d agree with that assessment one hundred percent, but there is some truth to it. However, I also think that there is some wishful thinking on their part, too.

Info on a release date for 1.6 is very sketchy. We’re told we should be hearing about that “pretty darn soon”.  Frankly, I’d like to see the word “soon” stricken from all gaming information. It’s frustrating beyond belief. I see that word and roll my eyes. I simply don’t understand why they can’t say “months” or “weeks” instead of the “s” word that has become a joke among gamers. I wonder if they realize how silly that word makes all games look? My guess is that they don’t have a clue that it blows their credibility every time they use that word. At least among experienced players.

Guild ships and other items discussed at the Guild Summit are still somewhere in the works, but don’t’ expect them any time in the next few weeks, Maybe not even in the next few months. The feeling I got on those things is that they are far down the line and not anywhere near the top of their priority list.

The Super Space Project is a reality and they’re playing it, so that must be coming along nicely. No word on when we’ll get to play it, of course, but it sounds like it will be fun. Well, they sound like they are having fun anyway and the hope is that we can have fun with it, too. That one is farther out still and we were told we probably wouldn’t hear about that for a while. At least they didn’t say “soon” on that one.

Ilum also sounds like a distant possibility, but again it’s not one we should look for anytime “soon”. They described the world building as “amazing”. I’m glad they’re revamping that. It had so much potential that was just never realized. Gorgeous scenery, but the model simply didn’t work.

The Cartel Market will see new items regularly, hopefully on a weekly basis. They confirmed that there will be something very cool before the holidays. I’m looking forward to that and glad I kept all my coins so far.

We did get one firm date and that was for fireworks. Each valid SWTOR account will receive twenty-five stacks of faction-based fireworks. Look for those in your in-game mailbox on December 11, 2012. I’m looking forward to those as our guild is having a combination anniversary/holiday party later this month. Those will add to the fun.

All in all some cool things to look forward to. I wish we had better timeframes and dates, but it’s nice to know they are in the works.

That’s my two credits. What’s yours?
