Photo-Receptor Focus on: New Content in 1.7

By Maer

The news about the new content in 1.7 was rather exciting. I’m particularly anticipating the new Reputation system. We will be able to get faction Rep with the Gree or Voss. Those are the two mentioned so far, but I hope there are others, as well. We’ll also be able to explore Ilum and have the chance to go on a new mission on The Gray Secant, a Gree ship in the night skies above Ilum.

More after the jump…

As far as Rep goes, I love achievements and this will give me something else to work on, which I find thrilling. Yeah, I know some people don’t like those kinds of grinds, but I’m perfectly happy with them. I like goals, so gaining Rep is something I prefer to the endless grind of a daily. The only time I don’t mind dailies is when they are a means to an end: a credits goal or I’m after a piece of gear.

Grinding Rep has an end goal, though. At the end I get a title and the Rep is shared among all my characters. That is totally cool and I love when things are shared. It’s going to be very interesting to see how certain Reps play out across factions, though. I may even level my Sentinel some more, just to see what happens Rep-wise.

The Rep will have six ranks, which is a nice touch. It starts with “Outsider”, and progresses through “Newcomer”, “Friend”, “Hero”, “Champion”, until you ultimately come to the end and become a “Legend”.

Going back to Ilum is something else I’m looking forward to. That planet has needed some love for a while now and I’m glad to see that it’s finally getting some attention. Ilum has some of the most gorgeous scenery in the entire game, especially when viewed against the night sky. I don’t mind the white of the snows on Ilum because it’s shaded with so many other colors. The designers did an excellent job on Ilum and deserve lots of kudos for a fantastic view.

I can’t wait to see what the rewards will be for clearing The Gray Secant. I hope the advanced technology and gear will be prettier than what we have so far. Although I will admit that there is some good gear in SWTOR. Unfortunately, as was pointed out to me recently in our podcast, the good-looking gear is on the NPCs. Doesn’t do me much good there now, does it? Anyway, my fingers are crossed for some awesome looks and I hope Bioware delivers.

All in all, I’m excited about the new content and hope Bioware blows my mind (in a good way).

That’s my two credits. What’s yours?

  1. New content is always good, but I really can’t get excited about a reputation grind (one of the things that finally drove me from WoW). What I really want from 1.7 is a good move towards fixing class balance in PvP though.

  2. @Zachariah Thanks for the comment!
I am hoping for more details on everything that will be included in 1.7. There could possibly be more they are adding we don’t know about yet. As far as class balance, the expansion will be adding 5 new levels and one new ability per advance class, I look for the time leading up to that to be when they deal more with the balance issues.
