HoloNet Links #82
BioWare has not released much news since last week, but they did give us another Community Round-Up last Friday. There are plenty of great RP, PVP, Speeder racing and social events coming in the near future. I will also post a few of the events after the Jump. The Community Round-Up had a few other hidden gems in the article, one of which I will highlight in the SWTOR Community News section.
RP tips from Larry Everett, Gunslinging Granny is back & more after the Jump…
- Upcoming Community Events

[The Bastion] <POD RACING EVENT> Feb 2nd, Saturday – all factions welcomed: “The rules are simple. Starting/finishing line – don’t attack. But anything in between those two points, kill/sabotage. All factions welcome.”
[The Ebon Hawk] Jerc’s Friday Fight Club!: “So, let’s make it a regular thing. Every Friday at 3pm EST we’ll start things up on Tattoine. Bring health packs, grenades and whatever else you need. No rules. Just some ole fashion rope-a-dope in the pit.”
[The Harbinger] organized open world pvp: “I have been wanting to do this for a while. I would LOVE to get a few guilds from each faction (of course) and plan out an open world pvp even. Pick a planet a date and time and have a blast. Could even use the old battle grounds on ilum. I would like feed back and see what everyone thinks.”
[The Red Eclipse] Fist fighting in outlaw’s den social event (want to see feedback): “Because I like social events in the game I decided to try and organise one of my own. My idea is fist fighting in outlaw’s den, and I will explain everything shortly. I was fist fighting with a guildie the other day and some people started to cheer, so I was thinking, why not make it bigger?”
[Tomb of Freedon Nadd] Sunday, February 2nd – 3v3 tournament: “I wanna announce the next week’s even which is going to be a 3v3 tourny on Tatooine. It’ll be held on Sunday, February 2nd. Gonna mail you the exact time of the tourney through ingame mail.”
- Roleplay tips from Massively’s Larry Everett
Many of you know Larry Everett from his columns at Massively and his appearances on GamebreakerTV, he is a huge Star Wars fan, lore guru and avid RP game player. This week in his Hyperspace Beacon article, he offers some tips and advice for those looking to give Roleplay a try in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Larry breaks it down into three areas to first focus on when beginning your venture into the RP world.
Character Development is the first area he strongly suggests you start. He clearly states you do not need to know everything about Star Wars, but doing some research for your character will not only help you fit in better with fellow RPers, but you will also learn some basics about a species or maybe a specific custom etc. After some research, think about your character’s personality. It can be as complex as you want it to be, but Larry makes a great suggestion to keep their personality close to your own. This will make it easier to remember and less rehearsed when you start chatting in-character to other players.
Now you have your character started, where do the majority of RPers hang out? Larry has observed that many will hang out in cantinas. He talks about some specific locations in his article for each of the factions and of course Slippery Slopes, the multi-faction cantina found on Nar Shaddaa. I would also ask in your specific server forum where some good locations that RPers hang out are. You also might read about some RP events happening on your server.
The final topic Larry covers in his article deals with some RP don’t s. He breaks them down into three areas to help you become better at RP and more importantly to be respectful. The first is to not meta-game, as he calls it. He describes this as taking information from player title, class logo, etc. and assuming that is the type of player they are roleplaying. I would think of it like this, when you first meet someone there is no nameplate over their head in real life, so greet them in-game and ask questions. The next two, do not power and no “god-mode,” areas Larry does a great job breaking these down into specific details and I urge you to go read through his article to see his examples. For me, the last two can be simply put as be respectful to your fellow gamer. That can be in how you gesture, chat and realize each players’ character is just as important as yours. If you take Larry’s advice on beginning to RP, you might find yourself enjoying the game in a whole new way.
- Dev notes
Hey everyone, thank you for helping us out by sending us your information. After further investigation, it still appears to be an ISP-related issue. As CS has mentioned before, please contact your ISP for more information. Thank you for your help with this investigation. If you would like, you may continue to post your information in this thread.
This issue lit up the forum threads all day, Wednesday, January, 30th, 2013. I cannot speak from any experience on the 30th, but into the wee hours of Tuesday night I did have one crash straight to desktop. From the thread in the Customer Service forum, BioWare believes it to be an Internet Service Provider issue, as you read in Joveth’s post. There might be something to this, but it also might with some of strong winds and storms that also hit the East Coast. All we can do for now is to follow the Customer Support Team’s suggestion. I would also make a note of everything you were doing in-game when the crash or the lag occurred, so you can provide BioWare with more data to help look into should this problem happen again. Hopefully this is all resolved by the time you are reading this article.
We’ve been looking into your reports with regards to not receiving credit for the mission [WEEKLY] Galactic Conflicts upon completing a Hard Mode Flashpoint. In our investigation, we confirmed that mission credit is being granted as intended; however, the mission will update after you have physically left the Flashpoint. This includes being disconnected or logging out and then logging back in while in the Flashpoint. If you are experiencing your mission not granting proper credit after you have completed the Flashpoint and left the instance, please post details in this thread, including the approximate time you ran the Flashpoint in question. Thank you all for your continued feedback!
Another potential issue that needs your detailed notes should it happen to you. As the post, by Amber Green, states if you are not receiving the credit for completing Hard Mode Flashpoint for part of the Weekly quest, Galactic Conflict, be sure to take lots of notes of the time, date, if you were disconnected, etc. and post all that information to the thread.
Thank you again for your updates and feedback in this thread. We have confirmed that the following is the current schedule for Heroic Space Combat missions:
Tuesday – Far Cradle Strike (Imp) / Regnant Station (Rep)
Wednesday – Kabal Station Defense (Imp) / Ardis Outpost Fortification (Rep)
Thursday – Kanz Minefield (Imp) / New Covar Ice Field (Rep)
Friday – Duma Strike (Imp) / Baros Ambush (Rep)
Saturday – Lorta Escort (Imp) / Hypori Escort (Rep)
Sunday – Cha Raaba Assault (Imp) / Thanium Disruption (Rep)
Sunday – Operation Foe Smasher (Imp) / Operation Clean Sweep (Rep)
For balance, we have decided to move one of the Sunday unlocks to Monday in a future patch.
Additionally, we have confirmed that there is a bug with the Republic mission Regnant Station, and it does reward too few credits. This has been added to the Known Issues list and will also be addressed in an upcoming patch.
Above is the current schedule for the Heroic Space Combat Missions. So for all you Heroic “Flygirls” and “Flyboys,” make sure to jot down this new schedule, so you can be sure to keep up with your Heroic Space Dailies. Also see where Amber Green mentions one of the Sunday Heroic will be moved to Monday. No news on which one yet, but when we know we will be sure to pass along the information.

- New SWTOR fashion website
As I mentioned in the intro, there were a few hidden gems in the Community Round-Up as always. This link is to a site dedicated in showcasing all the “Orange” moddable armors found in SWTOR. Chemayla’s SWTOR has your guide to the moddable fashion found in-game. The site was started earlier this month and continues to grow by adding more and more of the “Orange” gear players are wanting to see before they buy. Not only does the site continue to add more sets, but it does a great job of breaking the gear into the various categories to make it easier to find what you might need. Whether you need something special for that next Operation run, or for that night filled with wild PVP action, Chemayla’s SWTOR has you covered. Oh, and coming soon…moddable weapons!

- SWTOR Fan Fiction
We have some more fan fiction about everyone’s favorite SWTOR Granny…the one and only Gunslinging Granny. The SWTOR forum member Moormur started a thread titled “The Adventures of the Gunslinging Granny,” as I had mentioned last week. I subscribed to the website and the next part came right to my email. It is a bit silly, but I find it refreshing and was a fun break to my busy week. What will happen to this fun and fiery Granny making a new career as a starship captain…who knows but it will be fun to see the story unfold. Below we have a small section from part two of “The Adventures of the Gunslinging Granny.”
“Corso offered to escort me to the base and help out. He said he was just trying to make some money off it, but I think it’s because he’s worried I’ll get hurt. Don’t worry, Corso…ya don’t make it through 56 years of marriage without learnin’ a thing or two about staying alive. He even gave me his gun. They just don’t make gentlemen like that anymore.”
The WordPress site called Across the Expanded Universe is where you too can subscribe and follow this story. The site is dedicated to one person’s adventure in reading through the Star Wars Universe, “One Book at a Time.”
- SWTOR Music video
As we wrap up this week’s HoloNet Links, here is a video from Quistes, a player on the Harbinger server. Not only does it use a great song, “All Your Base Are Belong to Us,” which is a gaming reference from back in the day. The video is also great because it shows Open World PVP! The video is edited, but the group that ranged from three to twenty people held the Republic base for two hours! See it can work…nice job on the video and even better work on having some Open World PVP fun!
If you have a particular link, story, video, or topic related to SWTOR we would love to hear about it! You can send those to us here at Corellian Run Radio and we can place it in a future article. Just email us the links and/or the details for the event at email@example.com, or you can also leave any link suggestions in the comments below, or in Corellian Run Radio’s Facebook group. Thanks and see you all next week!
