HoloNet Links #86
Earlier this week, it was made known that Community Manager Joveth Gonzalez has moved on from his position at BioWare Austin. He posted in the forums his thanks to the community and best wishes to us all.
“Thanks guys. I appreciate all of your kind words. 🙂 You’re in good hands with the rest of the community team. Good luck on all of your future SWTOR adventures!”
We at Corellian Run Radio send our best wishes to Joveth on his future endeavors…May the Force be with you, sir!
New Community Mgr, Repair costs fixed, & more after the Jump…
Now that we know that Joveth Gonzalez has moved on, who is the new Community Manager? Well it is none other the Eric Musco. That’s right, the former podcaster with TOROcast, has worked his way up and going to be the one to interact with the SWTOR community. Now I could go on about how Eric will be great for this job, but I will let his own words, speak for themselves.
EricMusco I will actually be stepping in as the SWTOR Community Manager
As for what will change (if anything) moving forward. I can tell you that Courtney, Amber, and I all have some cool ideas! But overall I think you are all a bit unexcited about reading promises of new ideas and communication. So instead, we are just going to start doing stuff!
Please do not think I am making comparisons between any of the present and former Community Managers. I just wanted to show Eric’s post because it shows his energy, which is one of his qualities. He believes in action, which can already be seen from the Community Team’s added effort to post in several threads. It doesn’t mean that BioWare has never been reading the threads, but anytime you see that gold text it gives you more of a feeling they are listening.
- New Patch & Cartel Market Update
February 27th brought us Patch 1.7.1. This patch was pretty packed full of some fixes and some new discounts on the Cartel Market. I would describe the majority of the Cartel Market updates as Legacy related. Several of the Legacy Perks that help a character level up faster, get other quick travel options, perks to help gain crafting bonuses and several more. There are also several discounts on Cartel Market gear. Another item added to the Cartel Market is a gold version of the armor found on the Gree reputation vendor. For more details about the Cartel Market update, be sure to read the official SWTOR article.
Along with the Cartel Market updates, Patch 1.7.1 came with several patches to the game. One of the big fixes was the fix and additional 50% off on repair costs. This fix has been called for by the community since 1.7 went live. Not only did the patch notes talk about the fix to the repair system, but also explained how it will work when Patch 2.0, The Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion, goes live. The other issue that this patch addressed was the problems with searching for items on the GTN. Ghoztt can now find that exact numbered augment and you can too, since the search on the GTN now allows you to use numeric values in the search. This should help everyone with finding that exact item, without having to have a limited search or sorting through countless of items you do not need. BioWare also has a new subcategory added to the GTN, with the new addition Companion Customizations. This means players can also now sell these customizations on the GTN. For the rest of the details on all the changes and fixes, head over to the official patch notes from the SWTOR website.
- AmberGreen A Summary of Increased Repair Cost Problems (for BW/EA) | 02.27.2013, 11:19 AM
Hi everyone! I just wanted to come in and discuss the two updates we did to repair costs with today’s patch. These can both be found in the patch notes.
First, this update changed the way that repair costs are calculated for all modifiable gear. This update will definitely reduce repair costs that were increased with Game Update 1.7:
- Repair costs for modifiable gear will now calculate based only on the equipped mods.
In addition to this, we have made a temporary reduction across the board for repair costs. This reduction has been done to thank all of you for your patience as we worked on this situation.
- All repair costs have been reduced by 50% until Game Update 2.0.
It should be noted that after Game Update 2.0 repair costs will change again as we remove the 50% discount, but the change to modifiable gear calculations will remain. (To be clear, this means that after 2.0, repair costs will still be significantly lower than after Game Update 1.7.)
Thank you BioWare for fixing the repair costs and also the extra 50% off on repair costs till Patch 2.0 goes live. Thanks also to Amber for helping to clarify the change to repair costs and explaining that even when 2.0 comes around, costs will be LESS than when patch 1.7 first went live.
Just a quick update, we have confirmed this is definitely a bug and is not intended. We will work on getting this resolved so look for it in future patch notes and it will be added to the known issues list.
Sad, but true with any update there will be a bug or two show up. Hoods not working with helmets seems to be one of those bugs with this new patch. It appears from Eric’s post, it has been passed along to the development team and added to the known issues list. I’m hoping this issue will be fixed before the weekend, but if not at least it appears they are working to fix it.

Until then, we’ll have to be satisfied with cycao’s sig for the best of what’s been posted.
This seems like an excellent post for me to jump into given the topic
We are going to make a more concerted effort to post in all forums, not just PvP, but this forum is certainly a place that we can increase “yellow posts.” I am doing my best to go through and find major issues in all of our forums and even if I don’t have an answer at the moment, at least let you folks in the community know that we are aware of them.
Again this just shows the new attitude being brought to the forums by the Community Team. The community has wanted to hear more from the BioWare team and it seems that is just what we are getting. Whether it is PVP, Operations, RP, or whatever knowing that BioWare wants you to feel each of these areas are important. Besides this post, Courtney Woods posted in one of the Fan Fiction threads. She also asked the SWTOR question of the day for February 27th.
In the past, we have posted Daily SWTOR questions on social media and we thought the forums shouldn’t be left out on all the fun! So every day in various sub forums we will be posting a daily question. These questions are meant to be fun… Seriously guys, let’s just have fun.
Here’s our first question:
You just got arrested for starting a fight in a cantina. Which one of your companions will bust you out?
My personal answer is Doc. He would smooth talk the warden for my freedom.
So let’s hear it SWTOR community…which companion is busting you out of jail? My Sith Juggernaut would call Broonmark to break down the back wall of the jail. Let us know which companion you would call on in the comments section below and also be sure to visit the SWTOR thread and post your choice there too.
I just brought this back to the development team to get some clarification. One thing I can say is you will see something added into the CE vendor in Game Update 1.7.2, so look for it.
I cannot go into any details but I can say that we are exploring different ideas on how to give more consistent and regular updates to the CE vendor going forward. Again I cannot go into any details and these plans are not finalized, but we have definitely not forgotten about the vendor!
Woohoo! Yes, I am excited about this post, because I purchased a Collector’s Edition. I am glad to not only see the vendor is staying, but that in patch 1.7.2 there is confirmed to be something added to the vendor. Hmm, what could it be…a new speeder, a special pet, or maybe CE owners get animal mounts first!!! I doubt it would be animal mounts, but hey I can dream right? lol

- SWTOR Music video
This week the music video is different than some of the other ones we have highlighted Corellian Run Radio. The video is a showcase of the beautiful scenery found throughout the SWTOR galaxy. I found the video in the Community section of the official forums. I want to thank community member Cilas for creating and sharing the video with us all.
Developers, players and even games themselves come and go, but the important part is to have fun and enjoy whatever you are doing. That goes for your job, your hobby and even playing a videogame. I was reminded again of that very thing while playing SWTOR with my niece and nephews. My nephew got a computer for his birthday and an invite from me to play SWTOR. All them, have played the game on my account, but now we are able to tackle quests, heroics and Flashpoints together. I have never stopped loving the game, however the joy they express from the various cutscenes, or getting that rare gear to drop, has me feeling like I did when the game launched. If only we could hold onto that pure joy for the sake of just enjoying something…instead we over-analyze, complain, or let frustration take away some of the joy from playing the game. I challenge you all to see the game through a kid’s eyes and go have some fun!
That’s it for this week’s HoloNet Links. If you have a particular link, story, video, or topic related to SWTOR we would love to hear about it! You can send those to us here at Corellian Run Radio and we can place it in a future article. Just email us the links and/or the details for the event at firstname.lastname@example.org, or you can also leave any link suggestions in the comments below, or in Corellian Run Radio’s Facebook group. Thanks and see you all next week!
