HoloNet Links #93

gurian_lightning_speederThis week we have had our first major update since the Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion went live. It was supposed to go out on Tuesday night, but due to spotting a UI bug, BioWare delayed the release of the patch till the 24th. Hats off to BioWare for not releasing the patch once they spotted the bug. Now that the new patch is live, what all is in it? We will look through the patch notes and also take a peek at the latest Cartel Market update. Besides all that, we look at a couple of articles from Drew aka Geldarion on Gunslinger builds since Update 2.0 went live.

More on the latest patch, dev notes & a fan-made SWTOR video after the Jump…

  • Latest Patch notes

On first glance, the new patch looks like only for the Cartel Market, but once you start to look more at the official patch notes you see there are some good fixes, especially regarding 400+ gathering missions! There are also some minor changes to some classes, primarily to certain branches of skill trees. Listed below are the class/advance class changes:

Jedi Knight-Guardian

Defense

Daunting Presence will now allow Force Leap to finish the cooldown on Force Kick when only 1 point is spent in the skill.

Focus (Guardian)

Intervention will no longer incorrectly provide the maximum 100% benefit from a single committed Skill Point.

Sith Warrior-Juggernaut

Immortal

Invincible’s visual effect will now last for the full duration of the ability.

Rage (Juggernaut)

Oppressor will no longer incorrectly provide the maximum 100% benefit from a single committed Skill Point.

Jedi Consular-Sage

Balance (Sage)

Metaphysical Alacrity will no longer be prevented from properly granting a speed boost whenever the Mental Alacrity ability had been activated.

Smuggler-Gunslinger

Scrambling Field’s animation has been updated to better fit the fact that it can be used outside of Cover.

Saboteur

The tooltip for Incendiary Grenade now correctly states that the slow applied by the ability lasts until targets leave the affected area.

Sharpshooter

Ballistic Dampers will now be removed when the Gunslinger was broken out of cover.

Dirty Fighting (Gunslinger)

The slow from the Feelin’ Woozy skill will now properly reapply if the target is already under the effect of Shrap Bomb.

Scoundrel

Dirty Fighting (Scoundrel)

The slow from the Feelin’ Woozy skill will now properly reapply if the target is already under the effect of Shrap Bomb.

Imperial Agent-Sniper

Marksmanship

Ballistic Dampers will now be removed when the Sniper was broken out of cover.

Engineering

The tooltip for Plasma Probe now correctly states that the slow applied by the ability lasts until targets leave the affected area.

Lethality (Sniper)

The slow from the Adhesive Corrosives skill will now properly reapply if the target is already under the effect of Corrosive Grenade.

Operative

Lethality (Operative)

The slow from the Adhesive Corrosives skill will now properly reapply if the target is already under the effect of Corrosive Grenade.

Trooper-Commando

Electro Net now has an improved tooltip, and players can now see a stacking debuff for the damage scaling.

Bounty Hunter-Mercenary

Electro Net now has an improved tooltip, and players can now see a stacking debuff for the damage scaling.

Besides those changes above, Crew Skills got some love. It is nice to have to new crafting schematics and missions, but up till now the gathering missions were not giving the player much return for the amount of time a crew member was busy and the amount of credits the missions cost per the items gathered when the crew member returned. Here is a quote from the patch notes:

“Successful Gathering Missions above level 400+ will now provide more crafting materials.”

The other big news that came with this latest update increases to caps on Commendations. In fact in the case of Classic Commendations, there is no more weekly cap. Below is listed the official patch changes to Commendation caps.

Commendations

Planetary Commendations now have a maximum cap of 100 (up from 50).

Classic Commendations now have a maximum cap of 1000 (up from 400).

Classic Commendations no longer have a weekly cap.

Basic Commendations now have a maximum cap of 1000 (up from 600).

Basic Commendations now have a weekly cap of 500 (up from 300).

Players will no longer be incorrectly given a warning about the Weekly Commendation Limit when they are not near the limit.

There are many changes that came along with this patch. It covers almost every aspect of gameplay in SWTOR – Operations, World Bosses, PVP, Space Combat, UI changes/fixes and much more. Be sure to take some time to read through all of the patch notes. What do you think is the best fix or change in the new patch? I like the raised caps on Commendations myself. Let us know what you like in the comment section below.

  • Cartel Market Update

bastila & jolee armorsAlong with the fixes and changes that were included in patch 2.0.1, came several new additions, discounts, and a new pack to the Cartel Market. The new packs are called Vice Commandant’s Contraband Pack. These packs include some new armor sets, including two more from the original KOTOR game…armor that resembles what Jolee Bindo and Bastila Shan wore when players first met them in the game.

The Trooper armor set, seen during the character creation screen is now available to purchase and is adaptive armor. The new armors and wardrobe appearances are very detailed and someone is hearing the pleas for color, because many of these sets are full of bright and vibrant colors.

revan_holo_vendorAlong with the new armor sets, there are two new crystal colors – Silver/Blue and White/Black. The new Cartel update also has its share of new mounts, weapons and new pets. However, one of the coolest things is the new Revan Holostatue. It is not just cool because it is of Revan, but more importantly it is a Commendation Vendor! Yes, the very idea that was mentioned during our Boys’ Night podcast is being put into the live game. It is not exactly how we envisioned it, but the idea that there is a portable Commendation vendor obtainable in the game is awesome! For more details on these items and the other additions to the Cartel Market, be sure to read the developer blog and community news articles about the newest update.

vice_commandant_packs

On a side note, I try to be positive on things I see in the game and write about. It’s not I am blind to problems or ignore an issue, but it is just how I approach my coverage of this game. However, I am a bit confused on the new packs. The new armors, weapons, emotes, etc. are all great, but my issue is that you pay 320 Cartel Coins for a pack and only get 4 items. That is the same price you pay for the previous pack that gives you 6 items, two of which are rare items – armor, pets, speeders and such. I am not sure how to put a positive spin on this direction BioWare is taking with the number of items in the Vice Commandant packs. Let me know what you think in the comment section below.

  • SWTOR Video

We have showcased various fan created videos on the site in the past, whether it was guides for in-game elements, fan created/edited music videos around SWTOR, or even the just plain silly parody videos revolving around Star Wars. Well, we have another video and it is created by another member of the SWTOR community. This week’s video utilizes many hours of in-game footage, from cutscenes to actual gameplay to get the shots to create this very unique video. It is created by a group of role-players on the Progenitor server and deals with their own storyline. I do not want to ruin the story by giving away spoilers, but it centers on a rebellion in the Empire. It is very well edited and I believe could be a potential idea for an event or even an expansion for the actual game. Now these are just my opinions, but watch it for yourself, then let us know what you thought of the video in the comment section below. Do you think there are any story ideas BioWare could use from this video?

  • Geldarion’s Gunslinger Builds 2.0

geldarion-current-pvp-gearNow that patch 2.0 is live many of us are trying to figure out how to get our character or characters setup to take advantage of all the new changes. Our very own, Drew aka Geldarion has written up two great articles on builds for the Gunslinger/Sniper Advance classes.

He has in his first article he is talking all about the Sharpshooter/Marksmanship tree. Many of you may know Drew is a killer at heart, well in the virtual world. He loves PVP and knows what it takes to be successful. While he does give some great builds, outline roles and rotations for PVP, he has not forgotten about those of us into PVE. Drew has builds and tips to help leveling and different DPS roles for the Sharpshooter/Marksmanship tree.

In Drew’s next article he is covering all about the Saboteur/Engineering tree. Again he covers the advantages and roles this tree can play in the various PVP Warzones. Drew gives you his thoughts on the core talents of this tree for the Gunslinger/Sniper and rotations. Again he lends his skills to the PVE players alike with various builds for the Saboteur/Engineering tree depending on your style of play or situation.

Drew’s attention to detail shows through in these articles and I strongly suggest that you subscribe to follow his blog, The Fanatical Swordsman. This will keep you up-to-date on the latest builds (keep an eye out for the Dirty Fighting guide). It is another good site for great articles by Drew, Rhekk, and Torvox.

That’s it for this week’s article. If you have a particular link, story, video, or topic related to SWTOR we would love to hear about it! You can send those to us here at Corellian Run Radio and we can place it in a future article. Just email us the links and/or the details for the event at corellianrun@gmail.com, or you can also leave any link suggestions in the comments below, or in Corellian Run Radio’s Facebook group. See you all next week!
