HoloNet Links #110
Hello! It’s time for another edition of the HoloNet Links. Wednesday, August 21st, was the end of the Bounty Contract event. How did you enjoy taking part in this new event? If you didn’t get all of those henchmen or kingpin targets taken care of, don’t worry, the event will be taking place again sometime next month. This Wednesday also marked the release of Update 2.3.1. This patch update added two new packs to shipment three, Contractor’s and Freelancer’s Bounty Packs. The update also added some changes for those playing SWTOR as Free-to-Play. We will look more into the patch notes, the new items found in the new packs and a few other surprises.

- Patch notes for Update 2.3.1
As I mentioned above, this update focused primarily on new additions to Cartel Market via the new packs, but there are also plenty of other info besides those items. First off, there are the changes to help those using the Free-to-Play option in SWTOR. There is no longer a need to purchase an Event Equipment Requisition from the Cartel Market, BioWare has made all Event items open to all players. Free-to-Play players now can train for Sprint and be granted the Emergency Fleet Pass ability. These both can be obtained by the Free-to-Play players in SWTOR at level ten. This is another great Quality of Life feature for those of you enjoying SWTOR using the Free-to-Play option.
Although the Bounty Contract event has ended, BioWare has already added some changes to help make this event better. Below are listed the bug fixes for the event from the official patch notes on the SWTOR website.
-While in a group, players who have used different methods to complete the same Bounty Contract are now provided with the appropriate conversation when turning in bounties to clients on single-faction planets.
-The appropriate error message will now display when a Friendly Drink is offered to a Shady Character who has already declined to provide information after one is offered.
-Players are no longer able to remove the “Bounty Engaged” buff from themselves.
-Aja Novar’s “Explosive Surge” ability no longer displays as a buff while being cast.
-All Henchmen have broken their vow of silence during combat and will speak when fighting.
-Interrogation Probes and Kingpin Authorization items no longer incorrectly display a debuff icon upon use.
-The Carbonite Grenade no longer functions while players are dead.
-The “Bounty Target Region” buff is no longer applied twice while completing Bounty Contracts on Nar Shaddaa.
These should help to improve the Bounty Contract event. As far as things, I would like see changed in the event are changes to the rewards for taking down a Kingpin target. I did like the challenge of the fight with the Kingpin, but the tracking process, using the macrobinculars, seemed just added for another step. Now, I don’t want to make it take a long time to track the targets, but I feel this step could be improved upon by making it a puzzle or something the player has to figure out, like a real investigation. As I said, I would also like to see the Kingpin rewards changed. As it stands now, the in-game rewards are not much better than what a player gets for taking down the henchmen. If you have several alt characters, it will be easy to achieve the levels of reputation with the Bounty Broker Association. I easily made it above the Friend level of reputation just by primarily focusing on one henchman per character per day, and that was also without being able to play every day.
Now, I did really like the armor sets and weapons available through the reputation vendors, but I do think the prices were a bit steep. If you are a level 47 or higher you have the ability to run dailies and make a good amount of credits, but since this event is open to anyone level 15+, it does really limit those lower level players participating in the event. If they want to keep some of the armor and weapons at a higher price, fine, but at least offer a few things like a vanity pet or maybe a player emote etc. that is less pricey. Those are just my thoughts, what did you think of the newest event in SWTOR? What are some changes you would make to improve this event? Let us know in the comment section below.
- New Bounty Cartel Packs
In Update 2.3.1 there were two new packs added to the Cartel Packs, Contractor’s and Freelancer’s Cartel Packs. On the official website, BioWare highlighted some of the items that can be found in the Freelancer’s pack. There are new armor sets and weapons. Now many of us have asked for totally new armors and it really looks like BioWare has listened. There is one armor set, the Series 505 Cybernetic armor set. This set actually gives the player an appearance of having cybernetic arm, leg, and torso. This is armor set really gives you a new look, I think of it sort of a kin to an early ancestry to cybernetic armor used by General Grievous. I also can see this set or parts of this armor set being used for RP in SWTOR.
Now when Update 2.3 came out, animal mounts were added to SWTOR. The first animal mount of course was the two types of Tauntaun mounts and they both were separate from the Cartel Market. The next animal mount is the Varactyl. This animal mount is best known as the bird like lizard rode by Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode III. If you have travelled to Belsavis you have also seen these animals roaming the landscape. There is no confirmation if this animal mount will only be accessible only through Cartel packs, but as of now you will need to get one through a Freelancer’s pack or look for someone selling it on the GTN.
Speaking of mounts, this new Cartel pack also contains several new speeder mounts. When I say new mounts, these new speeder mounts look very different. On top of new styles, the speeders are very brightly colored and some have even cool pinstripes.
I could talk a lot more about all the new items added in the latest Cartel packs, but if you want to see more examples of armors, weapons, speeders, pets, armor dye modules, new KOTOR armor sets and more check out the this SWTOR Facebook link and also the official article about the Freelancer’s pack. Oh, and check out the new emote…
- Dev notes
On August 22nd, all game servers will be unavailable as we perform brief maintenance. Patch 2.3.1a will be implemented during this downtime. Details are as follows:
Date: Thursday August 22nd
Duration: 2 hours
Time: 3AM PDT (10AM UTC) – 5AM PDT (12PM UTC)
- The incorrect alignment requirement has been removed from the following gear:
- Section X Guardian Armor
- Scalene Armor (Red, Blue, White, Gold)
- Voss Ambassador Armor
- Hyperspace Hotshot Armor
- Deep Space Starfighter Helmet
Thank you for your patience as we maintain service for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™.
I know this was a major frustration for some players yesterday, especially those unable to use their characters because of this bug. However, BioWare has fixed it in today’s patch. Hopefully everything should be working smoothly and no more alignment requirements, in regards to these specific reputation armor sets.
In case you missed your chance to play against Musco and the devs last week, tomorrow night some of the devs and I will be playing arenas on PTS.
If you didn’t read Musco’s previous post, let me explain how this will work!
As we often do with PTS, we have some specific things we want to test. We thought playing with y’all on a live server would be a great way to build a little extra excitement around Game Update 2.4: the Dread War. We are doing something a little different than last week – each of us will be queuing up solo. So you might be playing against one of us or alongside one of us!
Our current plan is that we will do this tomorrow night from 5-7 PM CDT.
It’s easy! All you have to do is join the ranked solo queue. We will be playing Arenas in that queue nonstop from 5-7 so hop on and you might just get a chance to take us on or have one of us on your team!
Like last time, we will not be in-game to answer questions or anything like that. Whether we are on your team or you are playing against us we will only talk with our weapons!
Below are the character names of who you can expect to see tomorrow!
As you can see, I will be the community team rep this week. I am super excited! The rest are members of the dev team, including some folks from our Combat/PvP team! We are a mixture of Imperial and Republic characters this time!
ONLY the names mentioned above will be representing BioWare during that exact time. If during that test, or anytime besides that, you see someone on PTS who has similar naming and is claiming to be a BioWare employee, they are not. Not only are they not an employee, I would ask that you immediately send me a PM here on the forums to let me know of their action (do not submit an in-game CS ticket). This is a definite breach of our ToS and appropriate action will be taken.
If you aren’t aware of how to access PTS and want to join us, please follow the steps below!
1. Log in to the Star Wars: The Old Republic launcher using your username and password.
2. Click the Settings button (gear) in the bottom left corner of the launcher
3. Under “Enable Public Test Server Access”, select “Yes”
4. Click “Save”
5. Now the bottom left corner will have two buttons: select the new button next to settings
6. Under “Pick an Environment” select “Public Test”
7. Click “Next” and you will begin patching on the Public Test Server*
8. Click “Play”
If you happened to miss this chance to play against the devs last week on the PTS, well tonight, August 22nd, 2013 5-7 PM CDT. This will be on the Public Test Server and will be helping test out the new arenas soon to be coming out in Update 2.4. So, come on out join the PTS, take your team and battle the devs. This sounds like a great opportunity and a lot of fun…not to mention helping shake out the bugs in Warzone Arenas coming in Update 2.4.

- SWTOR fan created videos
This week we have a couple of cool and a bit funny videos from the great folks in the SWTOR community. First off we have a unique Easter egg found in the upstairs VIP lounge of both fleets. It is a small tribute to the movie Night at the Roxbury. It has two guys that mimic the mannerisms from the two main characters in the movie. Wraiven, from the SWTOR forums, did a good job to edit in the original Star Wars cantina music, and then switch to the theme song from the Night at the Roxbury movie.
The next video is a parody of the Black Beauty TV show. It showcases Glynn Skyward, his trusty Tundra Tauntaun and Treek. This video is really nicely edited and the footage is great. The video really has the feel of an intro to a TV show. Check it out.
That’s all for this week! See you all next week. If you have a particular link, story, video, or topic related to SWTOR we would love to hear about it! You can send those to us here at Corellian Run Radio and we can place it in a future article.
