  1. There is a simpler way to disable windows (and/or caplock keys)

Create a file called “disable_caps_lock_and_both_windows_keys.reg” and put in it the following (you can create and edit it with Notepad)

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
    “Scancode Map”=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,04,00,00,00,00,00,5B,E0,00,00,5C,E0,00,00,3A,00,00,00,00,00

save and double click the file to edit the register with the values.

Then add another file called “remove_scancode_mappings.reg” and edit it to contain

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
    “Scancode Map”=-

Actually the files can be named anything as long as they end with “.reg”

Just saves having to have another app on your computer … the app probably does more things … probably the same way ….. and is maybe easier to use. This was just the way I found to disable those pesky windows and caps lock keys.

  2. Back in Wow, I had a problem with the windows key always minimizing the game when it was SUPER-IMPORTANT. My low-tech solution was to pop the windows keys off the keyboard with a spoon. But your way is more elegant.

  3. Haha, yeah and a little less permanent! Sounds like your solution would work though! 🙂

  4. Yeah for people who are comfortable editing their registry, this is a good solution. I assume it is easy to turn back on, just by using the second file? I wanted to give a self-contained solution, but this is a good alternative for those who are opposed to strange software.

  5. yes the second file returns key maping to OS default.
