HoloNet Links #134

star-wars-lego-millenium-falconStar Wars fans can be found in almost every part of our society, even in the most unlikely places. I was at my doctor’s for a check-up this past week and when I mentioned writing for a Star Wars gaming website/podcast, my doctor told me he was a long time closet fan of Star Wars. He is not a gamer, but his interest is in the Lego Star Wars sets. Not only does he collect the sets, but he has at least one of every set built and displayed on his shelves in his basement. Isn’t it great to think how this Star Wars franchise can bring together people of all different backgrounds, all for the love of that galaxy far, far away…

Season 1 PVP Rewards, Community Cantina dates for 2014 & more after the Jump…

Speaking of love for Star Wars, I’m sure many of you know by now Jeff and Deirdre will no longer be making any new podcasts or adding any new material to their TORWars website. Our friend DD, has taken a job with Carbine Studios to work on WildStar. Due to the conflict of interest they felt it best to close the chapter on TORWars. They still plan on being fans of SWTOR and just enjoying things, but taking it easy from the duties of gaming journalism. When I received an email from Deirdre about their decision, I was sad. After being in this SWTOR fansite community you develop friendships that extend even beyond the games. However, I am also happy for DD’s new job and career opportunity. All of us at Corellian Run Radio will miss our fellow podcasters, writers and most importantly friends at TORWars, but we raise a glass (of course the best Corellian ale) and toast Jeff and Deirdre on the next adventure in their lives.TORWars-Logo-Square

  • SWTOR Community Cantina Event Dates

community_cantinaCourtney Woods posted a list of dates for some upcoming Community Cantina events BioWare is currently planning. From the list below, it appears BioWare will be making a return to the major gaming and Comic-Con events…PAX East, San Diego Comic-Con, PAX Prime, Gamescom and New York Comic-Con to name a few. Of course the post also mentions these dates and locations are subject to change until closer and BioWare releases an official blog concerning the event.

– Atlanta, GA – February 28th

– Boulder, CO – March 21-23rd

– Boston, MA (PAX East) – April 11-13th

– Vancouver, Canada – May 23-25th

– Los Angeles, CA (E3) – June 10-12th

– San Diego, CA (SDCC) – July 24-27th

– Cologne, Germany (Gamescom) – August 13-17th

– Seattle, WA (PAX Prime) – August 30th – September 2nd

– New York, NY (NYCC) – October 9-12th

– Las Vegas, NV – November 7-9th

– Austin, TX – November 21-23rd

From my point of view, this is very encouraging to see BioWare and SWTOR making appearances at the major gaming and comic conventions. It could stand to reason that we will have some potential major announcements at these events. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. Will you be attending any of these events? I am hoping that the Chicago Comic-Con gets added to the list.

EricMusco Class Representative Kickoff and Schedule! | 02.20.2014, 10:05 AM

Hey folks,
It is time to fully kickoff the Class Representative Initiative again. In case you weren’t around last time we ran it, here is how it works… The elected representative for the specified set of AC mirrors will work in their class forum to establish a set of top 3 issues, in the form of questions. Once submitted, (which happens based on the schedule below) I will work with the combat team to get you answers to your top 3 issues within a week or so. That is the basic rundown of how it works.
One change that we are making this time is the submission schedule. We will be doing one Advanced Class, every other week. I realize this will mean some classes will not get to submit their top 3 for quite some time, but we want to ensure that the Combat team can concentrate on each set of top 3 as they come in, along with their normal workflow. Please note that it will be our goal to increase our regular communication around classes in general.
Here is the schedule (I will be in touch with the Class Reps on the specifics or work to fill the role if there isn’t one currently):

– Marauder / Sentinel – February 28th

– Powertech / Vanguard – March 14th

– Mercenary / Commando – March 28th

– Juggernaut / Guardian April 11th

– Assassin / Shadow – April 25th

– Sorcerer / Sage – May 9th

– Operative / Scoundrel – May 23rd

– Sniper / Gunslinger – June 6th

Thanks everyone!

It appears BioWare is starting the Class Representative program again. This is great to see that they are going to try and work with players that are representing the different classes in the game. I hope that BioWare takes to heart what these class reps concerns and questions bring to the combat team. It would be a shame to waste a great opportunity of working directly with the player community in SWTOR. I am concerned about the dates for the various advance classes to get their time to have their questions/concerns brought to BioWare. June 6th is when the last advance class will be heard from and according to the Road Map for SWTOR 2014, Update 2.7 goes live April 8th. We also know from last week’s dev post by Eric Musco, that several class changes will be taking place in Update 2.7. I am no game developer, but I do know it is hard to help with class changes if they are already made before the class rep gets to convey concerns or questions to the combat team.

TaitWatson Bolstered Mods vs. Obroan | 02.20.2014, 02:01 PM

Hello everyone!
I sent the information posted by L-RANDLE to the combat team to have them take a look, and wanted to post and let you all know what’s going on.
One of the first things we found when looking at the numbers is that tooltips are not matching what the back-end math says should be going on at all. Turns out, weapon damage attacks aren’t properly updating when we bolster weapon damage values up. That is going to cause players with lower weapon mods (hilts/barrels, specifically) to have their “white damage” abilities really off-base on the tooltip. We have informed the engineering team so that they can take a look and see what’s going on.
The second thing we did was “dissect” the numbers we got from L-RANDLE, specifically when it came to the Ravage numbers provided. For a bit of background, here is how Ravage damage is calculated:
Ravage Hit 1 and 2:
92.5% of Weapon Damage
13.9% of Base Level 55 Ability Damage (Max Base Damage is 2685 at 55)
1.39x Bonus Damage Stat
So using L-RANDLE’s provided information, here is what we got:
Obroan:
Max Weapon Range: 668 (Bolstered to 863)
Bonus Damage: 834.2
1st and 2nd Ravage Hits: 798 + 373 + 1159
3rd Ravage Hit: 1597 + 746 + 2319
Total Damage (before Skills/Armor/etc): 9322
L-RANDLE’s Personal Setup:
Max Weapon Range: 651 (Bolstered to 863)
Bonus Damage: 856.7
1st and 2nd Ravage Hits: 798 + 373 + 1190
3rd Ravage Hit: 1597 + 746 + 2454
Total Damage (before Skills/Armor/etc): 9447
Blue Mods:
Max Weapon Range: 651 (Bolstered to 863)
Bonus Damage: 882.6
1st and 2nd Ravage Hits: 798 + 373 + 1227
3rd Ravage Hit: 1597 + 746 + 2454
Total Damage (before Skills/Armor/etc): 9593
As you can see (and as many of you have reported), the blue mods are scaling much better than Obroan. We will be looking at Bolster and making adjustments to work towards correcting this issue, particularly as we get towards 2.7 and a new set of PvP gear.

First off, congrats to L-Randle for crunching the data and bringing this to the attention of the developers. Secondly, thank you BioWare for taking the time to listen to this player’s data and effort to help. Hopefully this will be fixed and bolster will work how it was intended. This just shows that if you see a problem and approach it in a constructive manner with the data to back up your argument, that a single person can create change.

  • SWTOR Music video

It seems like I am almost always posting a video from YouTube user HunterFireFlower, but what can I say they create some really good videos. This one is set to the song “Lullaby” by the band Nickleback. The use of in-game emotes, staged scenes between in-game characters and set to the music really conveys the video’s creator interpretation of the song’s story. I love the singing emote combined with video editing effects to create the feel of the character being the lead singer belting out the chorus.

Check it out below and let us know what you think in the comment section below.

As we head out for this week, here is a Star Wars picture from sheldonsfans.com. Only Sheldon would approach the Dark Lord of the Sith and remind him of what “spot” he is in.
