narshadda_palaceWe have an official announcement on Player Housing, err I mean Player Strongholds. The term Stronghold is what a player’s “house” will be known as in SWTOR. BioWare has given us several details and most importantly, they gave us actual dates!

Find out the actual dates, details & Subscriber rewards after the Jump…

Okay, so what we know from BioWare, the Strongholds will be Customizable, able to live on Multiple Planets, Legacy Stronghold Storage and a Prestige score for your Stronghold.

Carla, along with several other SWTOR players, wanted to be able to customize our Strongholds and according to the official announcement, you can! Below is what is listed under customizing.

Customize Your Strongholds
Display trophies earned in battle, craft state-of-the-art furniture, and unlock all-new rewards across the game. Then customize your Strongholds with hundreds of unique decorations to express your personal style.

On top of this, BioWare later states some of these decorations can be crafted! Adding the ability to craft items for Player Strongholds is a great move. It gives crafters another means to be relevant in gameplay and the economy in SWTOR. This also eases people’s mind that thought all decorations would be on the Cartel Market.

Next on the list is being able to live on Multiple Planets. This is great that players can have various living quarters throughout SWTOR. Right now, it appears those choices are your faction’s home world and Nar Shaddaa. BioWare has not said if this is all of the planets, but we will keep a close eye on this.

If you go read the official announcement post, you will see all the topics I have mentioned along with a few more. The other ones of note are the new Prestige score for Player Strongholds, Legacy Stronghold Storage and finally Guild Flagships! Yes, the once believed mythic term of a Guild Capitol Ship, or as they will be known as Guild Flagships, are coming to SWTOR. Not only have they been announced, but we have a date and not just a copyrighted “coming soon.” Not all the details concerning these new Guild Flagships have been released, but we will keep an eye out to see how these new guild vessels will work in the SWTOR universe.

As much as I’m excited about the housing/Stronghold announcement, the official statement that Legacy Storage will be in SWTOR has me very happy. This long awaited feature of allowing access to storage across all your Legacy characters will be added to SWTOR when the full release of Stronghold happens in August.

BioWare is also using this announcement as a push to get more subscribers and what better way to do that than by rewarding subscribers. Subscribers will be rewarded in multiple ways with Galactic Strongholds. For one, subscribers will gain Early Access to the Stronghold features around June 24th and also will receive the Nar Shaddaa Sky Palace Stronghold. Not too bad to get a palace as a reward. The next reward will actually come to qualifying subscribers before Galactic Strongholds arrive to Early Access. Subscribers meeting the following dates will receive extra Cartel Coins, according to the official announcement.

Bonus Cartel Coins Offer:
Subscribers as of April 2, 2014, at 11:59PM PDT / April 3, 2014, at 6:59AM GMT will receive 500 Bonus Cartel Coins by April 3, 2014, at 11:59PM PDT / April 4, 2014, at 6:59AM GMT.

Subscribers as of May 4, 2014, at 11:59PM PDT / May 5, 2014, at 6:59AM GMT will receive 1,000 Bonus Cartel Coins by May 5, 2014, at 11:59PM PDT / May 6, 2014, at 6:59AM GMT.

All in all, I’m excited about this announcement. BioWare might have been late on including some of these features in SWTOR, but they are going to be in-game now. Do I feel there was a concerted effort to make Player Housing an in-game feature because of new games in the near future? Yes, I do. Any time there is direct competition in a specific marketplace, it tends to spur companies to outdo the other. For me, if I can get these same or better features in the Star Wars Universe, I m happy to keep playing SWTOR. Thanks BioWare and I look forward to hearing what you have planned next.

  1. so excited for all this, I think this will be a fantastic digital expansion giving some quality of life boosts.

  2. @Wicket – I agree, this will be a great expansion. There have been some Quality of Life issues that needed to be improved, this expansion will be a step in the right direction. What would like to see when it comes to the Guild Flagships?

Personally, I would like to see the Guild Flagship be a in-game meeting house. This would help with planning events, Ops, and leveling. It would be great to see an in-game guild calendar application, mission terminals for PVE and PVP dallies, and quick-travel to various gameplay areas.

  3. that’s about what I am hoping out of the guild flagships also, it needs to be a mini fleet but with guilds at the center of it. I would love to see some kind of mobile companion app released as well and while not guild specific a “Armory” would be so freaking nice.

  4. @Wicket – I like the armory idea! That would be great to see in SWTOR. Thanks for the comments!

  5. it’s something I’ve wanted to see for a long time, especially with Legacy gear, the ability to see what my alts (and their companions) are wearing would come in handy more than once! 🙂
