HoloNet Links #147
Last night, I took some time to check out the new event, Festival of Splendor. The event starts on both fleets, where a hovering transmission droid has the beginning part of the quest. The cut-scene is great with a sort of travel commercial quality. From there you travel to Nar Shaddaa and proceed to the Club Vertica and/or Star Cluster casinos. The added elements like casino hospitality droids, fireworks, extra gaming machines, etc. gives it a true “Vegas” feel.
More on PST Festival of Splendor, Episode VII contest after the Jump…
Now, the actual event is a change of pace from killing enemies or collecting this and that for quests. The mechanics are simple, buy casino gaming tokens, smuggler’s luck or kingpin chips. The tokens/chips can be purchased with credits, Warzone commendations or Cartel certificates. Once you have your tokens, just find the gaming machine for the specific token you have. Next click on machine and see if you win. As far as I can tell, there is no skill to the game. It is a randomly generated result, but you can increase your odds on the Kingpin machines. There is a buff called “Feeling Lucky.” To get this buff you need to go to the smuggler’s luck machines and play. After you get a few wins in a row there will be a message that pops up on the screen saying, “Feeling Lucky.” This means you have acquired the buff and you should proceed to the Kingpin machines and try your extra luck.
The event is okay, but I am hoping there might be a few changes to the gaming process. It would help if the machines had more of an interface that keeps track of your current winning streak. The game itself might be a bit too simple. Real slot machines offer the feeling like you are impacting your odds of winning by having multiple ways to win or bonus games.
I love the whole casino and gambling idea being added to SWTOR. It fits with the underworld and lore in the Star Wars galaxy. The only real drawback for me was the speed at which the casino ended up with my credits. There are some times when credit sinks are needed in a game, but I’m not sure an event is the best time to add one. It is important to remember this is still being tested and subject to change.

They actually aren’t named entries. They’re just erroneous entries that unintentionally inflated the listed number of entries available through gameplay. So yes, you will see a change in category totals in 2.8.
Update 2.8 looks to be addressing some cleaning issues with the Codex. It is good to see that this is still being worked on, so that the listings in the Codex are accurate. It might always have some small issues, but as small as this seems to some, it is one of those details that matters. If you know of some issues in particular with the Codex or something similar hop onto the PTS and see if the problem still exists.
Speaking of the Public Test Server, don’t forget that the new event – Festival of Splendor has been added. Jump on the PTS and help test out this addition of gaming slot machines to the Casinos on Nar Shaddaa. The more we log onto the PTS and help find bugs the fewer to cause issues when Update 2.8 is added to live servers.

- Star Wars: Episode VII contest
Would you like to appear in the new Star Wars? Episode VII director J.J. Abrams announced the contest that could have one of you filmed in a scene for Star Wars: Episode VII. The contest is part of the new charity called Star Wars: Force of Change. This first event is centered on supporting the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF.
There is no purchase or contribution required to enter the contest on the Omaze charitable website. However, for those willing to make a donation ranging from $10 and upwards they have some amazing Star Wars themed rewards. Some of these rewards are t-shirts, thank you card from J.J. Abrams, Episode VII artwork, all the way up to an advance private screening of Star Wars: Episode VII for 20 guests near your hometown! Nothing like some great rewards, but there is something far greater for being the hero by making a difference in a child’s life.
Head over to the Omaze web link for Star Wars: Force of Change Episode VII contest and enter today and make a donation if you have the means to do so.
- SWTOR Music video
This week’s music video takes place in Nar Shaddaa and what fits with the wild night life of this wild setting…well Lady Gaga of course. Stay with me on this. The song Poker Face is about how sometimes the outer isn’t always what lies beneath. Nar Shaddaa has the glitz and glamour, but also has some the deadliest gangsters and crime throughout the galaxy.
The video, posted by YouTube user ISIE42, does a great use the Nar Shaddaa gaming and nightlife found all over. I have seen several videos that utilize emotes in their videos. On that note, this video takes it to another level. The dancing and singing emotes truly give video the feel it could be found on MTV or whatever would be found in the Star Wars galaxy.
If you have a particular link, story, video, or topic related to SWTOR we would love to hear about it! You can send those to us here at Corellian Run Radio and we can place it in a future article. See you next week!
