HoloNet Links #187

No “Foolin’” it is time again for another HoloNet Links. As we start April, we had the yearly April Fool’s day prank from BioWare. If you haven’t seen it, be sure to head over to the official SWTOR website. Aside from the silliness, the Rakghoul virus is back. The virus has once again found its way to Alderaan. If you are looking to increase your reputation with T.H.O.R.N., be sure to check either fleet for the beginning quest to help contain this latest outbreak.

  • Update 3.2 on PTS: New changes

Travel changes:

The cooldown on the Quick Travel ability has been reduced. For Subscribers and Preferred players the cooldown is now 6 minutes, and for Free-To-Play players the cooldown is now 26 minutes.

The Legacy Travel I, II, and III unlocks now reduce the cooldown of the Quick Travel ability by 2 additional minutes each, down to 0.

The cooldown on the Emergency Fleet Pass ability has been reduced. For Subscribers and Preffered players the cooldown is now 90 minutes, and for Free-To-Play players the cooldown is now 180 minutes.

  • New Items added to Security Vendor on PTS

Dulfy has reported on her website that there have been some additions to the security key vendor via the newest Update 3.2 build on PTS. So what has been added? Good question and here you go. First there is a new title. The next item is a speeder, the Merim Gray Fox.

Meirm-Gray-Fox-Side

Finally, they added two new Stronghold items. Yeah, I know some are like, what? The new items are two new safe items. The safes are either a floor safe or a wall safe. These are a couple of new was to access your cargo holds. I know these are not ground breaking items, but they are new items BioWare is adding to the security vendors, so kudos on that. What do you think of the new items? Let us know in the comment section below.

  • SWTOR fan video

YouTube user MoNoChr0m3 has posted a SWTOR video. This particular video is a dedication/tribute video to the Sith Warrior class story. Be warned there are several spoilers throughout this video. That being said, this video does a great job of showcasing the struggle and conflict the Sith warrior faces. I found this class story akin to a samurai. The video also shows the conflict between light and dark sides of the Force the Sith Warrior must balance. In the video, the video’s creator utilizes cutscenes and voice-overs to help demonstrate key moments in this class story. If you have already played through the Sith Warrior storyline or don’t mind watching a few spoilers, this is one video I highly recommend checking out. Besides leaving us comments below, please take a moment and go to the video creator’s channel and let them know what you thought of the video.

If you have created a video about your adventures in SWTOR let us know by emailing a link to corellianrun@gmail.com or jason@corellianrun.com. We would love to share it on our website!

AlexModny Bolster Update! | 03.30.2015, 03:29 PM

Hey all,
We have heard your feedback/reports and experienced the disparity in the middle (30-59) bracket. We investigated this disparity and it turns out y’all were right! Bolster was giving out less stats than it should be for characters of all levels. This disparity was more noticeable the lower level the character, so the most negatively affected bracket was the middle one. My apologies that this wasn’t addressed sooner. The fix has been made today and the plan is that it will be in the next PTS build, meaning it will go live with Game Update 3.2. Thanks everyone for their feedback and reports.

Good question DynamiCtagez!
Just to be clear we could have a 30-49 and a 50-59 bracket but the reason we don’t right now is because we must balance between two factors in the regular Warzone queue; queue population and character level makeup/competitive mix. In theory, if we had an infinite number of characters in the queue (thus eliminating population from the equation) we would have a bracket for each level, as that would be the most effective at making sure the match the queue creates is supremely competitive, from a strictly character level base. However this is not the case, so in 3.0 we made the decision to go with a 30-59 bracket because it was the best solution for the balance between population/queue size and to get the best competitive mix. We are listening and understand the feedback that the disparity between the Discipline tree and utility points is not making for the best competitive mix seen in some matches. Please continue to give feedback including level makeup, time of the match, faction makeup, and server so we can pinpoint examples within the data. The current brackets are something that could change in the future based on y’alls feedback and data, so the brackets are never set in stone for all of eternity.

Nice job on all those who helped detect the discrepancy with bolster in the 30 to 59 bracket. As Alex Modny explains, the stats given out by bolster within the listed bracket were not being given enough stats. This appears to be fixed according the above post.

The other dev post dealing with bolster is a prime example of how important it is to submit your constructive ideas. One forum user suggested about another bracket division. Instead of 30 to 59, the forum user suggested 30 to 49 and then a 50 to 59. Now while Alex commented that they would not be making this change in near future, he did allude to possible changes in brackets. I think the importance of the dev post is to show that the devs are listening and also again shows how constructive posts tend to be better received. Here is hoping to shorter queues and better balance soon.
