Looking for Group: Rakghoul Resurgence
Hi guys, Joe here with a brand new column for CRR, called Looking for Group. This will be an opinion piece on various events happening in SWTOR and my view on various aspects of the game that I have come across in my gameplay. Today’s article is on the Rakghoul Resurgence event that has returned to us this past week.
‘The Hyland Organization for Rakghoul Neutralization (T.H.O.R.N.) has issued an official level-2 emergency alert concerning an outbreak of the Rakghoul plague on Alderaan. Wide-spread infections have been reported near both House Organa and House Thul, while scattered reports of infection traceable to Alderaan are now flooding in from across the galaxy. Quarantines have been put in place to restrict traffic of the plague off-world, but exceptions will be made for individuals with priority clearance.’
This reincarnation of the original Rakghoul event (Rest in peace my friend) is starting to become a little boring. The same instance of tunnels has been used since the first version of this event. When they first appeared in game I thought they were really cool. The instance really fit in with the Alderaan landscape and looked amazing. However, when the event returned on Tatooine, I, like many others thought that they would change the environment just a little bit, maybe make the tunnels look like sand. Even on Corellia, they could have added rubble or fallen statues so you felt that you were on or below a city. I highly doubt that the underground of every planet looks like Alderaan.
Other aspects of the event can also get quite boring. I think that it would be interesting to change the dailies throughout the week. Now, I can’t remember if they did this before, but It would be interesting if they announced on fleet, like they always do, that the Rakghoul plague is on X planet. Then players would be compelled to go do dailies to contain the spread of the outbreak. Perhaps later in the week have problems occur that means you have to go to new areas and do other challenges. If there were two areas on the same planet, it might encourage more PVP to take place. The last improvements they could make to the event is having an actual outbreak. Unless you are on Alderaan, you won’t see any other Rakghouls. I think it would be really fun if random mobs spawned on fleet to attack you or when you go to planets like Dromund Kaas mobs will spawn. They can even use the same system when the base mob is a lower level than your character just like they do now.
However, even though this event could stand some improvement, it is still a very interesting format, as it combines various aspects of the game such as PVP and PVE. I do really like the event, I just think that it’s needing some updating. When looking through twitter the other day, the overall opinion was that players had become un-interested in this event. On my server, there was one instance of the tunnels with only 30 people in the area. Now this was prime time play time. If you compare that to the launch of this event, there was 4 or 5 full instances of the tunnels. Personally, if they take just some of these improvements it will really help to improve the event for the better.
If you have any opinions of this event or the article, please tell me in the comments or on Twitter (@JO3Y502), I am always looking to improve!
