Well another week has come and gone, if only there was some news about SWTOR to discuss in this article. There was a minor mention of an entire new expansion coming to the game. Okay, enough sarcasm, there is a lot to talk about in regards to the announcement by Jeff Hickman, during EA’s press conference at the 2015 E3 convention. BioWare has officially announced the next expansion coming to SWTOR, Knights of the Fallen Empire.

  • Upcoming CRR Livestreams

  • Knights of the Fallen Empire trailer

Along with the announcement of the newest expansion, BioWare showed off the newest trailer. The latest trailer was a return to the high quality CGI movie trailers produced by Blur studios.   • Community Cantina coming to San Diego

community_cantinaBioWare Community Cantina event will be hitting San Diego during Comic Con. This sounds like it will be a big event with there being a special story panel. This is mostly likely where BioWare will be giving us more official information on Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion. There is just under a month till this event, time to get your questions ready.

AlexModny Warzone AoE Interrupt Change Feedback Thread | 06.18.2015, 09:31 AM

Hello PvPers!
First, let me thank and congratulate y’all on the successful PTS tests last weekend. We were blown away by how many of you showed up just to test Warzones (yes and get some coins and hunt us down :P) and it further cements the passion that this community has in our eyes. Definitely a pleasure to witness and be a part of.
Now to the nuts and bolts.
The AoE Interrupt change will not be going into Live in 3.3. We have read tons of feedback, looked at metrics, added in our own experiences and we feel that the change doesn’t do enough to positively alter the gameplay in Warzones and therefore it is not worth it to go through with the change.
Despite the change, we did see an increase in stalemates on PTS but we are attributing that to the increased healer population. Typically on Live, healers make up ~20% of the queue but on PTS last weekend they made up ~27%. The ~7% increase in healer population led to increased healing, which led to more characters being alive and able to defend/attack and thus increased stalemates. We don’t want to overreact to this because the makeup of the queue was not what would be considered normal but we are keeping an eye on the healing numbers in Warzones and arenas to make sure it doesn’t lead to stalemated matches.
We are going to keep an eye on things and possibly in the future take another PTS-focused stab at a change to decrease stalemates in certain Warzones post-3.3. We will use the same format and won’t push such a change to Live unless we are confident it is having a positive impact. BioWare has taken in all the data collected and the forum posts after the “battle the devs” PVP testing. The AOE change that was slated for Update 3.3 has been removed. As Alex Modny states, in the above post, the AOE interrupt change “doesn’t do enough to positively alter gameplay” during Warzones encounters.

Is this move by BioWare something the community agrees with or at least a step in the right direction? Of course, this is only one change. What would be some realistic changes BioWare could work on implementing into future updates? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Hey folks,
Lots of good questions around Operations! I am not going to go into details right now but, we have plans for Operations that we are pretty excited about. We will be releasing a blog in the coming weeks which should answer many of the questions that you have right now.



Yes, there are many questions out there about endgame, especially how it will relate to the expansion and new level cap. According the dev post, BioWare will be releasing more information on the official site over the next few weeks.

Okay, here are my thoughts on this part of the expansion. I am speculating, but if they have stated that some existing Flashpoints and Ops will be adjusted for level 60+. It is disappointing that there will not be any new Ops/Flashpoints until at least Oct. 27th. Why would BioWare release a new one before the new level cap? That would make the new content useless or a total faceroll when the new expansion would be released. As hard as it is to wait, it really is the only logically option for BioWare. Would it be a welcomed solution to the community, if BioWare would start adjusting preexisting Flashpoints and Operations to level 60? Hey folks!
Seeing all of the discussion around our Knights of the Fallen Empire announcement has been awesome! It means a lot to the writing team to see how much y’all care about the details of the story and characters of SWTOR, and all of the insightful questions and debates that flow from that. I’m here to hopefully shed a bit of light on a few of the most common questions I’ve seen.

Up front, I think the best answer I can give to any story question is that it’s always best to wait and see how the story itself will answer it. I personally just hate giving out spoilers, so I won’t be doing that here. I promise, the main storyline of KOTFE is all about the things y’all have been asking, and October is going to be here very soon. In the meantime, though, let’s see if we can’t at least clarify a couple of things now:

  • The Outlander: your character’s past will be a key part of their identity as the Outlander moving forward. The choices you’ve made, romances you’ve pursued, your class, etc are all a part of who your character is, and those decisions will be honored in KOTFE; often in unexpected ways. How that works for characters who are created at level 60 is something we’ll dive into in the future, but we will not be setting a “canon” version of any class or world storyline. Your choices matter – that’s at the heart of our storytelling philosophy at BioWare.
  • Companions: there’s a ton of stuff going on with companions in this release, and we’re not ready to dive into most of it just yet. What I can say is that past companions will return in the story, sometimes as very critical parts of the overall story shared by all Outlanders. Which classes can recruit which characters, who can be romanced, who can you kill and who might betray you? You’ll have to play and see. Finally, I’ve seen a lot of people referencing the KOTFE page’s character list as a list of companions – not everyone on that list will become a companion, and not every companion in the story is included in that list.
  • Valkorion: who is this guy? What happened to that other Emperor? Aren’t they both actually Jadus, who’s secretly Kephess, who’s actually a mutated clone of Kai Zykken created by Fez Burba for the Star Cabal’s secret war against the Shroud? OK, so I actually haven’t seen that theory, but IT’S ALL TRUE TELL EVERYONE BEFORE IT’S TOO LA—-

Well, as the dust settles post expansion announcement, we are starting to get more details on the Knights of the Fallen Empire. Above, Charles Boyd has written out some very specific details relating to the story as it relates to the player hitting level 60 and more details on how the expansion will impact companions. The section about companions almost reads as if upon hitting level 60, the companion system will have huge changes. The player being able to recruit, betray and even KILL (this option was in the original pre-launch version of SWTOR). Yes, a majority of the details are still being held “close to the vest” by BioWare, but the idea they are willing to change this system is a good sign. There is no reward without taking a risk.

Speaking of risk, the idea that players, at level 60, will become the Outlander seems wild. Why would BioWare go this route? Well it actually fits the BioWare storytelling. Look at the Dragon Age and Mass Effect games. These had the hero character known by one name and yet could be either gender and be different classes all without upsetting the different story choices made by the player. Okay, yes, those are single-player games and SWTOR is an MMORPG. The only element that will be impacted will be the player’s personal story. This idea of a centralized style hero will help make story branching easier, so your choices will matter more. The issue that is odd is the way factions APPEAR to be done away with in new expansion. Hopefully in the next few weeks or at the story panel during the San Diego Community Cantina event, we will find out more how these elements will impact our stories in SWTOR.
