HoloNet Links #207
Wow, this is the end of August, which means we have just under two months until Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion goes live. As it gets closer we are now getting official news from BioWare. August 26th, BioWare’s livestream event was one of the first announcements of new elements or changes coming to the game. This seems to be just the start of news coming from BioWare about KotFE expansion.
Now, we can get into this week’s links after the Jump…
- SWTOR livestream breakdown
August 26th, BioWare hosted a livestream event on their Twitch channel. This event focused on primarily two things, showing some gameplay in chapter three. We got to see Lana Beniko unfreeze the Outlander from carbonite. The gameplay also showcased some of the influence system that will be in Update 4.0 instead of affection. The Jedi character picked story choice and Lana’s influence went up or down based upon that choice.
The other focus of the livetream was companions, specifically how companions would work in regards to combat and gear. First off, companions will no longer be confined by combat roles. Every companion will be able to switch between all three roles. This will be nice and allow players to level with whichever companion they want rather than one or two just because of their role. Gearing companions is another thing players will not have to worry about when KotFE goes live. Companion gear will no longer matter. The slots for gear will just be there for cosmetic purposes. Companions will level up stat wise as you the player do. The amount of presence a player has will still impact how effective companions will play.
Be sure to check out the video links to see all the cutscenes and entire livestream.

- Dev notes
We wanted to pass on a heads up about some Achievements which will be coming out of the game with Game Update 4.0.
Category: Citizens of Makeb
- Mass Exodus
- Hero of the Citizens of Makeb
- Making the Connection
Category: Makeb Imperial Forces
- Contain and Control
- Hero of the Makeb Imperial Forces
- Well Connected
All players who complete Making the Connection and/or Well Connected achievements before they are removed will be receiving a Makeb Gazebo decoration in the mail around the time Game Update 4.0 launches. If you don’t have those achievements but you are looking to get them before they are retired, now is the time! We’ll see you all on Makeb.
Time to head to Makeb and complete some quest to get the achievements listed above before they are gone. When this change goes live, BioWare plans to give players a very nice decoration, the Makeb Gazebo. How many of you are planning to knock out these quests/achievements? Would you like to see BioWare give out better rewards like this for achievements?

1. Will be able to meet and/or recruit companions that don’t belong in our class? (for example, if I play the demo with my agent, will I still see T7?) yes or no will suffice.
2. What affects the companions effectiveness in battle? Only our level? what about Presence stat? what about affection?
3. Will any and all changes to the companion system also be applied to the 1-60 leveling experience?(multiple roles in combat, or whatever changes you introduce to crafting)
4. Since some companions are not customizable via armor, I am correct to assume that the customization slot will still be there?
5. What will happen to earpieces and Implants on companions? Should I remove them before starting KOTFE?
- Level and Presence. What Presence does is increase damage, healing output, and total health of your Companions.
- Yup again.
- The plan right now is they will be mailed to you when they come off your Companion in 4.0.
The above post and answer from Eric Musco were in the forum thread titled, August Livestream Wrap-up. This was started right after the livestream ended on May 26th. Eric posted the first entry to the thread as a brief wrap-up of what was covered in the livestream. He also is using the thread to read questions from players and answer a few. In the above post, Eric’s answers are pretty short and to the point, but I feel the do give us some more information.

- Star Wars: Share the Force commercial
This week’s video is different. It is made for the store Target as a commercial for the launch of the new merchandise associated with Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. I’m sure some are hearing the quote from the movie, A Christmas Story in your mind, “A crummy a commercial?” Please bear with me a moment. The video below is the Target commercial, but it is more than that. It is the idea that Star Wars is generational and will be passed on to the next generation and generations to come. The video shows pictures, video clips from when the first film came out. It shows the joy, the love and the awe created by Star Wars. Next it fast forwards to the present showing those same emotions being felt by those seeing the new Star Wars trailer. Yes, it is a commercial, but yet it is more. We will think back to this time and refer to what was going on as the world got ready for the return of a Galaxy far, far away.
Please let us know if you have a particular link, story, video, or blog related to SWTOR we would love to hear about it!
