Today marks the beginning of a new video series, “Choose Your Side.” The premiere video goes in-depth into the Jedi Knight and Bounty Hunter classes, focusing on their best tactics to use against one another. Not only that, but the video is also a good introduction to both characters in both story and combat functions. We also get a lot of new gameplay footage for each class, taken from scenes throughout the game. To see it for yourself, watch the video here.

Today is a good day for those who have a guild ready to go pre-launch. The Guild Alignment phase has begun, which means guilds can choose who their allies and adversaries are.

Not only that, but we also get part one of a two-part blog by William Wallace about Companion Characters. Some of the juiciest bits of that blog are a look into companion abilities/roles and a confirmation of companion customization.

If I feel like the Bioware has been jumping from one convention to the next in the last couple months, I can only imagine how it is for the developers – particularly the ones who seem to be at all of the conventions. We already have another con upon us: Eurogamer Expo 2011 in London, September 22 to 25. Bioware promises hands-on gameplay of the Origin Worlds and some PvP. In addition to the details on the expo, we also have a new Studio Insider and this month’s Community Q&A.

Corellian Runners, we have quite an update today. In addition to the obligatory PAX Highlights video, Senior Writer Alexander Freed explains the goals and strengths of writing in the Star Wars universe. If Developer Dispatches aren’t your thing, we are now gifted with the Progression video for the Smuggler, whose groin-kicking feats of awesomeness shall be sung for millenia. Let’s start the update there, shall we?

More Friday Update and Comments after the jump. Continue reading »

To those of us who followed the Gamescom and PAX news at home, the two events may seem like one huge event. To the lucky people who got to go to either one, however, the two shows have produced very different memories. Today, we get a taste of what it was like to check out The Old Republic at GamesCom, full of cosplayers, T-shirt throwing, and German fans.

It seems a bit strange that we didn’t also get the PAX highlights video, but perhaps we’ll have that soon. Either way, while we didn’t get a release date at either event, we get one step closer to playing SWTOR every day.
