The calendar year keeps flying by faster and faster it seems. Hard to believe this is already the third week in November. For all of you in the United States of America, we want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. This past week has been all about Patch 1.5 and the Free-To-Play option coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic. I have been amazed the number of people I have seen in-game. Just last night there were 5 instances of Dromund Kaas! Welcome to SWTOR to those of you returning or those playing it for their first time.

The big news is that all of you who use to play or have not yet tried Star Wars: The Old Republic…can play the game for FREE starting today! Now, there are some restrictions that you need to be sure and read about on the official website. But, despite the restrictions you can play levels 1-50 through your character’s class story completely free. For those of us still subscribing to the game, it will be pretty much the same with added content, a new daily commendation area – Section X, a new quest line to obtain a new companion.

Star Wars: the Old Republic, I love you. You let me play a video game where I can swing a lightsaber and throw down purple lightning. You let me do this in either a solo, “me and my NPC companions against the universe” way or in a group with friends and strangers. For this I am eminently grateful. As we all know, this heap of adoration is the softening of the harsh words I’m going to have next.

For the longest time, all we knew about the Free-to-Play Option was it would be coming sometime this Fall. This week BioWare has shed a little light on the Cartel Coins current subscribers have or potentially will earn at the launch of the new Free-to-Play option. There have also been some updates to the Features page, which compares what will be offered to subscribers versus those using the Free-to-Play option.
