HoloNet Links #64

Server consolidations happened this week. So, if you haven’t logged on since Tuesday, you might just find yourself on a new server or have some of your “forgotten” characters on other servers added to your character select screen. Okay, the good news, there are more people on each of the new “mega” servers and that is great for grouping and having Warzones pop faster. We also got a free chance to change our Legacy name. This is because Legacy names are no longer unique to just one player per server. Now along the lines of naming, there was some bad news. Some of us had to make name changes to existing characters. Oh, there was one other issue, UIs were reset. Why? Thank goodness I saved my UI settings. All and all, despite name changes and UI reset, the server consolidations seemed to go fairly smooth.

Launch day finds Drs. Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk in the Big Apple.   First we find them ringing the opening bell at the NASDAQ along with President of EA Labels, Frank Gibeau.   Next we find them in the streets of New York making quite an impression on the locals.  Later that evening, we see an amazing “Star Wars The Old Republic Lightsaber Freeze Mob in Times Square.”   Finally, we find the doctors at Best Buy, Union Square for midnight release of this incredible game.

Just when you think the fanfare is over, we find Greg on CNN!

Fast Company, a business magazine that focuses on innovation, digital media, and leadership posted a terrific article on Star Wars: The Old Republic. Writer Jennifer Vilaga talks to Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk, and Daniel Erickson about BioWare’s early days, the decision to make their first MMO, Daniel’s stress-induced condition which caused a weird kind of memory loss, and more. Bonus: the Doctors’ journey from med students to creators of SWTOR on the eve of release is told in comic-book form.

Larry Everett Brings It

Roxanne couldn’t make it this episode, but we got Larry Everett (The Republic, Massively) to fill the third seat, which was great when we started our retrospective talk about following SWTOR because he’s been tracking this game since it was just a twinkle in BioWare’s eye. Bonus: three-minute blooper reel where Kathy cannot get through the outro.

FACT OR FICTION: Can you pick out the confirmed fact from the tall tales? This week’s challenge concerns companions, pre-ordering, and PvP.

BioWare Head Honchos Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk told Eurogamer.net that when it comes to game and marketing decisions, dissatisfied fans should not point the finger of blame at EA Games.

OK, we admit that we here at Corellian Run Radio have been guilty of doing exactly that.  Mea culpa, BioWare Doctors.
