…Forever will it dominate your economy. This is about Pay-to-Win, history, history repeating itself, and temptation. Pay-to-Win (aka P2W) is how several MMO titles in the “lower tiers” make their money – they sell the gear that gives the best chance of success in a cash-shop. It doesn’t mean automatic, surefire victory – just a much better chance at it. Foolishness, carelessness, and (in the case of PvP), other players’ skills have a role to play… just a lesser role. If the content is captivating or competitive enough, a Pay-to-Win model can be very lucrative, and it’s a tactic that BioWare has flatly stated that they will not employ.

Galactic Trade Network – New Search “Functionality”

The Hutts are at it again – first they hold the GTN hostage for a full day after the Gree re-enter Republic and Imperial space, desperately searching for help (aka Patch 1.4), but now that the slugs have decided to give it back there’s something new and interesting about it. The cartel apparently wants to expand what you see when you go searching, so they’ve implemented whole-phrase search. Whereas earlier, if you typed ent mk-6 into the search box, you got only the Mark-6 augment slot components in the results pane, now everything with the letters ent or the phrase mk-6 shows up.

UPDATE: The + operator does indeed work… so searching for cube +alien will only return Alien Data Cubes rather than everything with the word Alien in it (like Ancient Alien Artifacts)

No word on if boolean operators (like + AND – “”, etc.) will be added to the system to help filter things, but those Hutts are smart – I’m sure they’ll be in soon.

Extended Maintenance for 1.4

As has been reported elsewhere, today is the day the SWTOR community gets Patch 1.4: Terror From Beyond. The maintenance window, originally expected to last six hours, beginning at 2am CDT, has now been extended another two hours to 10am CDT (11 EDT, 8PDT, your time zone). Why the extended downtime? Is it the sheer size and complexity of the patch, or is it that all of the “body type 2” characters need a little extra recuperation time from their recent plastic surgery? The rumor mill has it that, at least on the Republic side, there’s been some shortage of qualified plastic surgeons since the Face Merchants were put out of business.
