Jan 202012

Star Wars: The Old Republic wins Mainstream Game of the Year from AbleGamers.com. Not only has this game been one of the most followed and anticipated games, but it also has now been awarded most Accessible Game of the year for 2011, for a mainstream game. There is a great article at their website talking more about the criteria and their reasoning.

Yes, some might be saying…”It hasn’t been out that long and only was released right before the end of 2011.”

Well, to answer some of the naysayers, read on after the Jump…

The award is for 2011 and Star Wars: The Old Republic was released in 2011. Next the award is based upon being a mainstream or “big” game, well over one million subscribers before the New Year; I think it safely meets the criteria for being a “big” game. Finally, the award is also about accessibility and Bioware did a fairly good job at handling a multitude of these areas without add-ons being available for the game at this time. AbleGamers.com has a very extensive write up on their review process and the score given out to SWTOR, which happens to be 8.5 out of 10.

This story is very dear to my heart, as many know I have limitations from my spinal cord injury. I can safely say that Star Wars: The Old Republic does a very good job at allowing me to play this game and even play at a high level. There are many who have quested with me that did not see any difference in my playing from any other player, besides maybe a few poor decisions on when to use abilities that might have pulled a few extra enemies lol. All in all the game is very solid platform that allows for many of us to play out our Star Wars hero fantasy, despite our abilities. Is it perfect? No, there are plenty of areas that Bioware can improve on, but given all the games released this past year…Star Wars: The Old Republic takes this award easily and deservedly so.
