Briefing

Welcome to the war, comrades. You have been selected to receive the latest training and tactics fresh from the warfront. The tried-and-true strategies you are about to hear are extremely effective and CLASSIFIED. Let’s get to the briefing. Today we will be discussing five ways you can improve your teamwork with your squad.

More after the Jump…

Everyone knows that teamwork can win or lose a Warzone. Most people who first join a Warzone for the first time might not know how to properly work with a team. Even some veterans need to be reminded of certain things for their own benefit. If nothing else, the following tips can remind you of some things you can teach to people, turning a PUG into a team.

So let’s get to the info.

Tip #1: Playing Objective-based Warzones Correctly

When approaching an objective, if you get there second to a teammate, DO NOT go up after them and start capturing it too, unless it is Novare Coast. In all other game modes, it is much, MUCH better to “peel” for your teammate. Peeling for a teammate can involve different skills for different purpose. A few examples are:

  • AoE CC like the Gunslinger’s Flash Grenade can keep multiple people from approaching
  • Roots like Force Leap can keep an enemy from achieving line of sight and being able to interrupt your teammate
  • Plain ol’ fashioned diversion and distraction can be useful in games like Voidstar and Alderaan Civil War, where you can pull people away from the door or turret to allow your teammate to slip in and cap
  • Knockbacks around the wall from the door in Voidstar or off the side of the cliff on the east and west turrets in Novare Coast can keep people running around instead of being useful.

Tip #2: Use Support Skills

Just because you are a DPS-specced tank, like a Pyrotech Powertech, doesn’t mean that you can’t use your taunts. In fact, you should have them on cooldown at all times. That extra 30% damage reduction on enemies can seriously help your team. They are even off the global cooldown for your convenience. Quickly switching in and out of your tank stance/cell can be a good thing, that way you can guard the Huttball carrier, etc.

Sentinels should always be using Transcendence with very few exceptions. It is the only buff that uses Centering that is Ops-wide; Zen and Inspiration only work on your group of four.

Gunslingers should not hesitate to use Hunker Down to gain an immunity to CC when it is most needed, such as on an important Huttball grab on a tied game. Scrambling Field is also a great tool for protecting your teammates. Flourish Shot is a one-of-a-kind debuff that allows you to simultaneously debuff incoming healing and armor. All of these are useful and should be used frequently.

There are many other skills that can be used to augment your team for other classes as well. Feel free to comment with your own suggestions!

Tip #3: Look Around

Especially in Huttball, being aware of your surroundings is a really important thing for teamwork. Looking ahead for a pass if you have the Huttball, making sure that your teammate has enough health to survive the attention he will soon have from the other team, and getting ahead for passes yourself is really important.

In Alderaan, Voidstar, and Novare Coast, it is imperative that you be aware of opportunities to cap, and make sure you protect teammates that cap as well.

Tip #4: Use Good Communication

I will again, at the risk of being obnoxious, attest to the importance of good communication. Talk, people! Shoot, move, communicate. Check out my first article for more information on this.

Tip #5: Don’t Use Unnecessary Crowd-Control

This is a subtle playstyle skill. Watch the resolve bar, and don’t use unnecessary CC. One thing I see quite frequently is the enemy Huttball carrier getting CC’d into a full resolve bar long before they reach the fire traps. This means they can walk right through fairly easily, unless they are rooted. This also happens when the ball-carrier is heading towards the endzone. You should never use a daze skill towards the endzone, it should only be stuns and roots. Otherwise, they will get a lot of resolve and you can’t hurt them without breaking the CC. Also, knockbacks and grapple pulls are sometimes the most useful CC skills, and if you resolve them up, they can’t be used.

I hope that this quick batch of tips will help you in your battles.

Use this information well, soldier. Fight for victory and die with honor. Till our next briefing, DISMISSED!
