EA Press Conference With SWTOR: Tuesday the 16th!

You don’t need to wait until Thursday for the SWTOR Gamescom goodness to start. Tomorrow (Tuesday), Electronic Arts is holding a pre-Gamescom Press Conference at 4pm CET (9am US Central time). The event will be live-streamed by EA, and they’ve confirmed more than just the presence of Bioware:

“Dr. Ray Muzyka from BioWare will be presenting a live, multiplayer demo of the highly anticipated, story-driven MMO Star Wars®: The Old Republic™ and providing an update on Mass Effect 3.”

EA Announces Origin

News broke yesterday from the Wall Street Journal, that Electronic Arts is starting their very own digital download service called Origin. The website will be premiered today at 9am pst. This early announcement prompted Stephen Reid, BioWare Senior Online Community Manager to make this post on the official SWTOR forums here. The most important item gleaned from his post is:

“Origin is a fantastic new digital initiative from EA, and we’re pleased to confirm that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be available exclusively for digital download from Origin.”

The official article from EA states that Origin will be a full service download site that will include a desktop and mobile application. It will now be easier than ever to get all your favorite EA games from one source.

Microtransactions for SWTOR?

It has just been announced by Business Week and Inc Gamers that Electronic Arts has selected Live Gamer to handle its microtransaction-based projects. Microtransactions are catching on like wildfire among video game developers.

Will EA elect to utilize this technology for SWTOR? Only time will tell.
