HoloNet Links #80
News…News…News! After the holiday period, it seems things are getting back in full-swing. BioWare gave the community what it had been starving for, news. We have news about what we will see in Patch 1.7, BioWare’s solution to gear changes on the cartel Market and even the latest Companion 101 blog. Even before we dig into these news items, I want to say thank you BioWare, but please don’t stop. The community loves to hear about the direction you have planned for SWTOR.
More on Patch 1.7, BioWare’s Gear Solution & much after the Jump…
- BioWare’s solution for Cartel gear changes
Last week we looked at Damion Schubert’s post on how BioWare wanted to make things right in regard to gear changes to existing armor sets. A week later we now have a better idea of what they intend to do to make this right by the community. Below is the post by community manager, Joveth Gonzalez.
Hi everyone, as Damion mentioned in an earlier forum post, this was incredibly important for the development team to resolve. We think that we’ve found the best solution for all users affected by the changes made to the Spymaster, Phantom, Trailblazer, and Preceptor outfits in Patch 1.6.2. In Game Update 1.7 (which should be going live in the next month or so), we are going to offer versions of the aforementioned outfits as they appeared before the 1.6.2 changes in addition to the current versions that appear in the Cartel Market Packs. Players will be able to obtain (via Cartel Packs) both the “Classic” (pre 1.6.2) versions of the outfits and the current versions (post 1.6.2).
What about players who already purchased this before the 1.6.2 changes? Or even the players that enjoy the new looks? We’re going to do what’s best for all and in the next major Game Update, any player that has any pieces of the four outfits (Spymaster, Phantom, Trailbazer, and Preceptor) will receive the “Classic” version (pre 1.6.2) of those pieces as well, at no extra cost.
We will scan the bank, currently equipped items, and personal mail to check for the pieces to these outfits, so be sure to remove them from a Guild Bank before then (don’t worry, we will let people know well ahead of time when the next Game Update will go live). If we find that you own these pieces, we will mail you the “Classic” versions of these items. These extra outfit pieces will be unbound, so you may do whatever you like with them. If an item is on the GTN during the maintenance when we make this change, the auction will be canceled and you will receive both versions of the item in the mail after we come back out of maintenance.
We feel that this is the best possible design decision to make all of our players happy and we will continue to improve our internal processes in order to prevent a situation like this from happening again.
Thank you for your patience, and thank you for continuing to support Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Personally, I think this is a pretty good compromise. The players who have these items will be mailed the “classic” versions of the armor to do with as the player sees fit. Yay for free armor! The only issue I can even mention is my lack of love for having to buy the packs and get the “chance” to get the armor pieces. I would love to see BioWare make it possible to buy these armor sets separate on the Cartel Market, but that is another issue.
How did you feel about BioWare’s solution? Please let us know your thoughts in the comment section below or try our new voicemail option located on the right side of the web page.
- Patch 1.7: Return of the Gree news
The biggest news this week was the article about Patch 1.7. We have now confirmed that Jeff Hickman’s mention of the Gree, during his State of the Game, is in fact about one of their strange ships referred to during the Grand Acquisitions event. For once, I got a prediction right. This is going to be the start of some kind of reoccurring event. The mysterious ship, the Gray Secant, has now crashed on Ilum and players on either faction will have the chance to help the Gree deal with a fierce new enemy.
Hmm now why would a player want to help the Gree? Well according to the article, not only will players have the chance to gain access to Gree technology and other armor sets, but players will be able to gain a favorable reputation with the Gree.
Now honestly, that is actually a good chunk of content, however there is more. Not only can you gain favor with the Gree, but also other species and different groups within a player’s faction etc. This is because in Patch 1.7 there will be a whole new reputation system added to the game. Each group that you can gain reputation with will have six levels. So it looks like that those bonus series quests might have some merit to them more than just XP. Now some of you are already sighing and thinking…now I have to grind everyone one of my characters to get all six levels of reputation. Guess what? You won’t have to because the reputation will be shared with all your characters in a given Legacy!
I think this is a great addition to the game. It has so many possibilities…extra titles, faction/group specific armor sets, new weapons, maybe even schematics. I am also hoping that if you are gaining reputation with one group that now their opposition will grow to like you less. This could create other enemies, whole new branches for future quests, and even though a wild long-shot…it could eventually lead to being able to switch factions or even a third faction. Now don’t quote me on this last bit, because it is only my opinion and guesses for the future.
What are your thoughts on the news relating to Patch 1.7? Do you like the idea of the reputation system? Let us know your thoughts or hopes for Patch 1.7 in the comment section below.
- SWTOR: Companion 101 – Aric Jorgan
Courtney Woods has a great write up on the latest Companion 101 blog. This time we get introduced to the Trooper companion, Aric Jorgan. First off, the article has some spoilers in it…you have been warned. Courtney tells us all about this tough nose, Cathar, Republic Trooper. Aric is a highly skilled military officer, but he is much more of a “take the fight to them” than just a sit back at base type of solider. Having played the Trooper class some, Aric reminded me of another tough military figure, R.Lee Emery or “Gunny.” In fact, I could see Aric and Gunny getting along quite well yelling at new recruits and swapping war stories at the cantina.
If you want to know more about Aric Jorgan and don’t mind a few spoilers, be sure to check out Courtney Wood’s article.

- SWTOR Fan Fiction
The one and only “Mayor of SWTOR” and renowned fan fiction writer Dimbo is back with his latest adventure of Dimbo the Trooper. We pick up the story as Sydor and Dimbo are trying to find where the Imperials have taken Sara/Striker. Again Dimbo has written this edition very well and even though the length remains short, it is packed full of action, suspense and of course wit in his characters that comes straight from the author’s personality. Read this small excerpt from Flashback part 2 and then be sure to go to his website and read the rest.
“Now little Republic soldiers tell me what you are doing here and maybe I’ll kill you quickly,” the Sith said with his hands folded across his chest.
I stared at him in the dimly lit room. “Well, we were looking for some buried treasure back on the beach, but got a bit lost,” I laughed, gesturing with my hand and quickly removed a small sticky grenade from my belt and threw it right toward the Rattaki’s chest.
That’s it for this week’s HoloNet Links. If you have a particular link, story, video, or topic related to SWTOR we would love to hear about it!
