GDC 2011: Damion Schubert on Understanding the Solo Player

Massively recaps Damion Schubert’s talk at last week’s Game Developers Conference. Breaking down the solo player into various archetypes (the Garbo, who just wants to be left alone; the Mr. Lunch at His Desk, who can play only in short bursts due to real life commitments, etc.), Schubert examines the many reasons why some people tend to play alone. He says that a game company must understand these players and then figure out ways to draw them into social interactions. Unfortunately, he didn’t reveal the ways SWTOR might do this, but it’s still an interesting read.

SWTOR Community Cantina Event at PAX East

Going to PAX East? So are we! And so are a number of different SWTOR podcasts, fansites, and media sites. We have been talking amongst ourselves and thought it would be fun to arrange a community-wide meet and greet specifically geared to the fansites.

Thus was born the SWTOR Community Cantina event, where TOR-nerds can come meet some of their favorite podcast/fansite personalities and other TOR fans. Come join us!

Carla did her best to fix it, but wasn’t able to in every case. These problems are much less noticeable if you listen through your computer speakers rather than headphones.

We snagged emlaeh, Executive Producer of Darth Hater, to join us for our podcast and we found out that emlaeh can go on and on about her hands-on gameplay experiences! Jedi Immersion Day: Our Favorite Reveals

Back in November BioWare hosted a Jedi Immersion Day and invited members of the press and fansite community to get a first look at the Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular. These lucky few got a chance at some serious gameplay time. On December 15^th, BioWare lifted the news embargo and the SWTOR community has been flooded with articles, videos, gameplay impressions.
