Hello everyone on this Wednesday afternoon.  It’s nearing the end of March and I feel like it should be the end of May.  The weather has been awesome here!  Last year at this time, I was still prepared to shovel snow.  Now, I’m ready to break the shorts out in order to sun some very white, chicken legs.  What a big change this year has been.  With the end of March quickly approaching, the team here at CRR are anticipating the release of Legacy 1.2, the first big content patch of Star Wars: The Old Republic.  If you haven’t checked out the weekly podcast here at CRR, please do so.  Carla, Maer, Jason, and myself talked a lot about the upcoming patch and the changes in store for the Legacy System.

But we’re not covering that here today.  Instead we’ll take a quick overveiw of the Republic’s center for crime and mischief, Ord Mantell, the starting world for the Trooper and the Smuggler.  Turn your comlinks on, link up your datapads, and let’s jump over to the world torn apart by civil war!

Highlighted Guild

  • True Covenant – Galactic Republic guild

This weekend many of us were able to play a character in the beta testing for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Today’s Guild Checkpoint, we get to learn about a guild that does more than just play their characters, they roleplay. This week’s guild is True Covenant. So what kind of backstory does the guild have and what requirements are needed to be in this guild? We will find out these answers from one of True Covenant’s founding members, Brindan. As we go through the Q&A section, we get to know more how they roleplay and how might the Bioware storylines impact the roleplaying community.

[ed. note: Please welcome our newest CRR Staff Writer, Thom Brinkman. His debut article focuses on what it means to play Dark, Light, or Gray in SWTOR.]

Sith or Jedi? Empire or Republic? Good or evil?

The struggle in Star Wars has always been about good versus evil. Darth Vader opposite of Luke Skywalker in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi or even more recently Yoda battling Dooku in Attack of the Clones and against Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith. The whole universe created by George Lucas has inspired many people throughout their lives, and the identity of many geeks would not have been established without Star Wars pulling them in.

Photo-receptor Focus on:  Empire or Republic?
by Maer

Welcome back!  Today let’s chat about which side we’re going to play and why.  I’ll start.

Being the good person I am IRL, I’m naturally going to play Empire characters in SWTOR at the start.  The chance to do the things I don’t get to do in real life is way too tempting.  Cheerfully kill someone just because I can?  Check.  Make choices that hurt others as I laugh with diabolical glee?  Check.  Stride through halls with elegant arrogance and look good doing it?  Check.  (I think I’ve seen some halls in the vids through which I can arrogantly stride anyway.)
