A spoiler-lite look at the characters of two SWTOR novels

Before these books, I had never read a Star Wars novel. Shared universes are always a bit iffy, to me. From the impressions of many of my friends, second-rate authors tend to write mediocre, clichéd novels in shared universes, depending on the popularity of the license to carry them. Since I want to be a writer for Bioware one day, though, I’ve decided I need to explore all of Bioware’s universes – or in TOR’s case, sections of universes – in order to have a full understanding of the lore.

Last year, Mass Effect producer Casey Hudson said Bioware was interested in the possibility of a Mass Effect motion picture. Besides a confirmation of its development by Legendary Pictures, little has been said of the project since. On Friday July 22nd at Comic-Con, details will finally be given at a panel by Casey Hudson and Mark Protosevich, the movie’s screenwriter. Continue reading »

It’s amazing how strong an effect some music and moving words can have. The opening text crawl has been a hallmark of Star Wars since the space opera’s very beginning, and nothing can give you the blissful, excited feel of the original movies like John Williams and yellow text. Fortunately, we’ll get that same feel from all eight classes in the game, explained in today’s Fan Friday update.

For over a decade now, BioWare has been one of the leading RPG developers in the industry. Games like Baldur’s Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect have each been reported to sell millions of copies. Since Bioware is bringing their hallmark feature of deep, interactive story to the MMO world in Star Wars: The Old Republic, it’s no wonder that the company’s own fans are one of the major populations TOR wants to pull in. Class Quests: What EA President Probably Meant by Two Hundred Hours Per Class

In an interview over at gameindustry.biz, EA President Frank Gibeau said the following about The Old Republic:

You look at a game that has 200 hours of gameplay for each of the six classes, and that doesn’t include the crafting, the raids, the multiplayer. It’s vast. It’s a gigantic game.”
